I got me a few of those funny little german cars that have the engine in the boot
The one I'm sorting out has been in a few films
As soon as time and hopefully the weather allows I'll be doing my first bit of welding and following that my first bit of spraying, so don't ask me for advice just yet.

Thanks for the tip Wozzaaah, I think I'll do something similar with the filter/regulator and do a oil up the tool end.

I bought a clarke filter/regulator at the same time, not the best quality but it will do the job. It looks like they've changed the model recently as the one they sell now is different to mine. You don't need an oiler unless you are only using air tools and not using it for spraying. I prefer to oil my tool as I use it (oo errr mrs!! ). Air tool oil is cheap as chips, I just use an oil can to squirt a couple of drops inside the air connector before I use the tool.

I have 2 ports on my compressor. One has an reg/filter/oiler and the other just a reg/filter.

I find a filer/water trap the most important for air tools. my die grinder would spew lots of water when used. Then be real tight the next day as the vanes had rusted.

An oiler is nice, but you have to dedicate air lines to it. I have air lines that are "oil" ones for non oil. If I used the same hose later for spraying that was used with the oiler, I would get oil in the paint.

A water trap and adding afew drops of oil is fine.

I had a cheap inline oiler. Useless as it dumps 1 os of oil in about 10 seconds. Just as easy to add some to the fitting before use.

So the MM 50 litre 8cfm ones. Are they any good to run, say an grinder/air wrench/sprayer etc, one at a time. Also are they any good for paint spraying, and lastly what is the difference between a fixed airline and a hose ?

would i be better of getting one from Shiremoor such as:

I have just taken the plunge and bought myself a compressor for €500 reduced from 600 so far so good it's three horsepower with 100 litre tank it looks fairly Well made with 2 cast iron cylinders (cast iron grade FC-25) whatever that the means I can't find any CFM figures it just says it supplies 305 litres per minute so that about 30 seconds to fill the tank in my head (which is seldom right but it's the only one I have) can anyone tell me how to work that down to CFM

305 LPM = 10.77 CFM

Sounds bit much for single-stage. My 5 horse is 9.6LPM@90 PSI.

100 liters filled to 125psi is 8.6 atmospheres so should be 8.6 * 100/305= 2.82 minutes to fill from empty.

My old 3.5 horse was about 5.6 CFM at 90 PSI.

The conversion is 1 litre = 0.035 cubic foot. So you've got 10.8cfm there. Possibly.

My 3hp is supposedly rated at 13cfm, but that works out at maybe 9cfm free air delivery at some pressure or other (the stuff you actually get out of it - important thing).

viewing to the advantages of the air compressor mentioned above, choose air compressor to create the biggest fortune for you will be most wise decision!

Odd to see you have compressors rated in CFM as displacement. Not areal valid #.

Here they are CFM at 40 and 90 PSI.

They also are a lot cheaper. my name-brand 3.5HP, 11 gallon (41L) 5.6CFM @ 90PSI was $200 6 years ago (Cambell Housefeld.)

My current 5HP/30gal is a Craftsman. Must be 12 years old. Got it used cheap.

Still looking for an 80gal/7hp deal I can't refuse

Your right they are very expensive overhear I was also looking at a 3hp 150 litre second hand compressor the guy wanted €700 for it was it was direct drive which means if the motor goes you can chuck it out to get something similar in a well-known brand will cost you around 12 or €1500

What would i need to use it. If i bought a compressor, would i need a filter/drain thingy. or would i be able to plug in an airline and lube the airgun itself everytime i used it.

Don't know about the compressor, but the company (Jawel) has been going a long time supplying automotive paint and supplies.

I hope some of these help zardoz I found the colemanpowermate site a big help as it tells you cfm of each tool. Most of the spray guns use around 4 cfm so if your compressor is 8 cfm and it cuts back in at 6cfm you should get 30 seconds spraying before it cuts in the the only thing you need to watch is the duty cycle on the motor

got most of my information from these sites you just have to work out the balance between air usage and duty cycle

many thanks Scarecrow, you help is much appreciated. I took the plunge and bought it for £101 inc delivery of £12 (cheap!) 3hp 50 litre 14cfm (10) So should be ok for my small needs.

nice you could always pick up a bit of extra capacity in the future. I get the buy and sell overhear and sometimes you would see compressors in need of repair going pretty cheap
this is my baby I bought the regulator separately from a air tool shop it is a regulator and oil and water filter all in one

Thats a nice looking compressor you have there. You mention you added on a regulator/oil-water filter. This is something i know nothing whatsoever about. I assume i will need one for mine, but im not sure why. All i know is if you want to run a sprayer off it, you need a filter other wise your paint will be contaminated. Not that im looking to use it as a sprayer in the near future. Just air tools, etc and maybe later learn about getting a small media blasting set up.

I am going to trawl through the forum to see what i can glean from the innumerable air compressor threads.

yer you wanna run a water filter even if you don't spray in my eyes, as your tools will get water in them and not last as long, the oil setup is just so u don't have to keep putting oil in your tools, it does it for you.

A post I read on here a while back said that putting the filter right next to the compressor isn't ideal, it's better to put it somewhere along the line so by the time the air's reached it it's cooler and more moisture will have condensed. Also if you're running a fixed line you can incorporate a drop in it to trap even more water.

Found it! it's the sandblasters and cabinet thread and it's well worth a read through all the posts.

That's right Wozzaaah but I'm not going to pipe it for the time being the guy on the U tube video and a good job done on his piping he had so much piping it must have added another 50 litres capacity to his compressor
the regulator zardoz is for giving you an even the flow of air to your sprayer as the pressure goes up and down in the compressor I don't think you need for power tools if you do it should tell you on the power tool
