Glad you're making progress. Just a quick note for the future replacement, if you can afford to, go for a deep, swingshovel drawn mole, they bury much, much deeper and will tear into the ground so much cleaner and easier than a tractor which will make a right mess if not get stuck. The little tractor ones generally slit just below the turf and your pipe will be very vulnerable to agricultural traffic and potentially obliterated if the land is ploughed in future

You pressurised the line and the air being lighter went uphill allowing an amount of water between you and the air pocket. You're not going to prove much like that, what you need is valves and a gauge. Pressure up the line, shut off the air and watch the gauge for falling pressure. That's what will find you your leak.

so what do you power that through with then if not a tractor? I think its what someone has or what I can make as I have no tractor myself. Lucky I am doing a big job for a AGR. contractor I think it will be late summer at best if I fix it next week

There are no meters Its our water and I have deeds for it going back 100 years plus rights to take from other places. People spoke of flow meter checking but its darn near impossible to find the pipe run and bore sizes change and I did check flow rates are not going to be up to much as regards fault finding

64 - 100 ft calculated lower than us - its most likely the neighbours house but this ground is up and down like the proverbial.

I have to say ours is really great water, crystal clear and analysed in the lab as top banana. Honestly and with respect to some of those who have commented it is way different than many can picture. When a lay the new line I will do steel galv valve and connector covers so they can be found with metal detectors, GPS plot it, one bore size and separate my line from the neighbours both fitted with a stop tap at the tank and sectionally along the length. I have failed to find the water line underground for hours only 12 ft away from an unearthed section, once followed a loop for near twenty feet only to find myself back only a foot from the first part of the dig (after that experience I replaced everything around the house grounds logically in straight lines with lots of stop valves)

Yeah-hey! I have water! Stopped off the neighbour this morn and I now have water gushing through the tap at kennels, very brown presently so I recon I will have to run it all off to clean once the header tank at the spring settles and boil the water for drinking till I ensure we have brand new UV and string filters installed.
Now I am thinking were I can get the money to buy the neighbours property as its going to be well beyond living in but could be a nice investment /renovation

The alkathene on my site is at 8 bar, which is about what the average compressor achieves.

The alkathene on my supply routinely reaches 10 bar overnight - it's not supposed to, and that's why there are regular blow-outs somewhere along the (council-owned) supply line. However, on my own property, the only blow-outs I had before I fitted a pressure reducer at the incomer, were at the plastic connectors, the temporary install of thin-walled farmyard grade alkathene pipe (not the supply-grade water board stuff) never blew.
