Containers, parts bins, etc.

I hate not being able to find something when I need it, worse still going out and paying for things I know I already have somewhere but can't find at the moment.
Also echo the comment above about open bins, the dust and crap they accumulate is unreal and its a big job to clean them out if there are lots of them too.

With thanks to @ukracer I now have a plastic bucket full of very useful bolts and washers, plus the various other packets of nuts, bolts, washers, etc dotted around the garage.

So I've decided that I need some kind of drawer / parts bin setup but, blimey, they ain't cheap are they?

Has anyone used DigDug? Their "value parts bins" seem cheaper than anything I can quickly find on google.
Thinking about the pack of 70 small bins and another 36 of the slightly larger ones, but that's still £60 before any kind of mounting rails.

Any other ideas / suggestions? I momentarily thought of making a hundred 'ickle drawers up out of wood but that sounds like an enormous faff and probably would be more expensive.

I've one of those as well. I use it to keep drill bits, turning tools and the like in. Pretty sturdy and good value, despite looking a bit flimsy till they're put together.

Started off with them at home for comms kit. They work so well they have followed me into each job.

Earlier this year I gave up on the plastic bins and wall racks. With Nuts & Bolts, washers and other small metal components in them in the warm months, the weight buckled and eventual broke some of them, scattering the contents across the floor.

I am now using metal chests of draws from Sealey. The 36 draw set sits on my welding machines trolley and stores all my consumable Mig tips, shrouds, adaptors, springs and swan necks, Plasma shrouds, and tips, and tig tungstens, shrouds and lenses etc. I also have 2 X 25 draw sets fixed on the end of some industrial shelves, these have all my different sizes of nuts, bolts, washers, lynch pins, R Clips, Timber connectors, Timber nuts, and where appropriate a single size set of metric Taper, 2nd & Plug Taps and corresponding dies, tapping & clearence drills, along with penny, spring and star washers. They are robust effective and just the right size for my small parts storage needs.

Ahh... I was looking at the snapon cabinet at £125! I hadn't even got to the second photo and yes, I agree - they look lovely and are indeed a bargain

Recently I've been using boxes that used to hold 3.5" floppy discs - we're moving site soonish and having a tidy out at work so lots and lots of old stuff is coming out of the woodwork and going for secure destruction leaving empty boxes.

I've also got a good few small boxes from the backup tapes we use - once we use the tapes they live in a fire-safe so the boxes just accumulate. If anyone wants any and can collect they are welcome to them. They are 115mmx110mmx25mm(ish) and made of clear-ish polyethylene type plastic. I've thrown hundreds away over the years and it always seems like such a crime to just bin them but you can only store so many empty boxes that you don't have a real use for. I'd have to check how many I've got left in the store for quantities but I'd be comfortable saying there are 30-40 in the surplus pile at the moment.
