This has been driving me mad for ages.
The wall of my kitchen is about 350mm thick stone so very cold and prone to condensation when cooking.
I've had a builder in to look at some plastering work in the house and he reckons it's something you can never get rid of; and recommended getting a condensing cooker hood and no real need to have it vented through the wall. Doing himself out of a job.
I've looked at cooker hoods until I'm blue in the face and and overwhelmed by variety. I want a flat one not with a chimbley on top to keep my wall space free for fishy.
Would a carbon filter do the job? I dont mind changing it regularly. When I moved in there was one. Horrific when I looked inside at the filter bluuurgh; Straight in the bin.
I already have an extractor fan fitted just out sight top right of the photo

a cooker hood only absorbs the smells going through its filters

as youve already found out your a poor maintenance with cooker hood filters

a condensing cooker hood is different it also needs to be drained as well compared to just opening a window

Ok, step back a bit, your builder is talking out of the top of his hood.

A carbon filter only cooker hood will not help you, for such a cooker hood to have any effect on moisture extraction it would require extracting to the outside.

From your photo which is limited, do you have a seperate extractor fan? if not have one installed, this especially so as you use a gas hob.

Do you have a wall rad' in the kitchen? if not and if possible, consider having one installed, plumbed off you existing CH.

Either or both of the above two will greatly reduce moisture in your kitchen, thus condensation.

there is many more factors within your room anyway that are cold

the walls are cold those steel plates are cold also so any heat will produce damp within your room

the same can also be said with ceramic tiles within a kitchen or even a bathroom

Have a look at downdraft cooker hoods (concerning fishy’s personal space).

Easy enough to fit, can vent externally (prob circulating ones about too). They work well.

I will say, get a good known brand with spares, speaking from experience if it breaks down and you can’t get spares it can be a ballache and / or a new worktop if you can’t fix it.

Any wall mounted hood will need to go smack in the middle of fishy and they cost a mint to run.
So as Ali above.
Or a dehumidifier
Xpelair are good, but it will get plastered with grease.
You could cover that wall with shower / bath wall panels, should give enough passive insulation to stop the problem and only glued to the wall. Plenty of patterns to choose from.

Back in the 70’s my parents decorated our house using thin insulation type stuff, maybe 1/16” thick that went on before the wallpaper. It was pretty amazing, the outer walls to the house were never cold to the touch after that.

I have an idea it was polystyrene, but maybe there is some modern safe equivalent you could put on the wall, to stop the temperature differential that causes the condensation.

Grandad did that to his place back in the 60s. The walls were soft! I am pretty sure it was polystyrene! I think back to what a fire nightmare that would have been sometimes!

Putting insulated board up on the wall will make quite a difference, even 6mm thick.

Kotina, or Cotina, not sure of the spelling, my father did the whole of the downstairs of our house & father in law did theirs, but with the addition of polystyrene ceiling tiles. This was the height of 60’s modernity. It did seem to work though.

Look at the chippies they aren't usually smack in the centre ..many are to one end

Cook with pan lids on and only just hot enough to cook no boiling the pan silly that helps keep the moisture down . The ceiling above your fish is there a floor above ? Could you put a simple removeable vent in the kitchen cieling and a rectangular duct from it to a fan in boxed work in the room above then take the exhaust out the top room through the wall
Wickes have a great range of such ducting as well as removeable grills & louvres . You can get almost flat to the ceiling aluminium screen grease catchers that can be degreased in the dish washer ( I've got one from a dead extractor hood if you want it )
You can add a humidistat switch for the fan too as it only pulls air when the sensor senses the level of moisture .
It worked well for me in my last home & I'm almost finished setting up a decent extraction system in this bungalow home
Depending on which way the joists run for the ceiling ..you might be able to put an inline extractor between the joists ...... our fans are about 5 in dia

We have a ceiling mounted hood that draws air through a continuous perimeter slot.
I was VERY dubious that something so far above the hob could be effective but I stand corrected. The perimeter slot seems to set up a curtain around and above the hob and very successfully draws all the water vapour away.

It's a Siemens/Bosch so doubtless stupidly expensive though.

It's a model LR96CAQ50B and I've just Googled it. Over £1500 !

Even the cheapest is £700 so I presume that option is out

I suggest the highest capacity in line 150mm duct fan and an artistic pendant hood.........................
