Well, slowly, slowly...

Still haven't emptied the sheds, but about to order the hardcore.

Still haven't any concrete ideas on the way forward, but we'll start with concrete floors.

Need to get a digger in to cut a channel between the workshop and the barn, all in time..

That's probably the first step...

Money's there, green light, etc...

I'm going to divide the workshop.

2/3 Machine / welding shop.

1/3 2 post lift, for working on cars and vans, a wall between the two, so the machine shop can be kept nice and warm, I've a spare wood burning Rayburn to go in there.
Ceilings at 2.2 meters +-.

That plan has changed, bought a four post lift and it's going in the barn, so I can lift vans.

Otherwise it won't fit in the workshop.

So the machine shop has got 20% bigger.

I've also been offered a cylinder head rectifier, (grinder), for scrap prices (200€), I'd be a fool not to buy.

So the plan advances...

I do a fair bit of engine rebuilding, or I did til I got stuck into this house renovation...

The lift should be great! I wish we had enough ceiling height in our garage to allow for a lift. IF we ever build a new garage, I'd like to add an extra meter or more to the ceiling height...and build a grease pit as well. Keep us posted as to the post lift progress.

Well, I bought the 4 post a month or so ago.

It was dismantled by a monkey, who has managed to shear, a steel pipe, attached to a dead hydraulic pipe. That was all that was needed, and some head scratching, I'd never even used a car hoist before I bought one. Really.

But it's all good.

Just need some concrete floors, electrickery, and we're off.

All in good time.

Ok, thread resurrection.

4 months later....

It's taken two weeks to clear the workshop. Pretty much clear.

Hard core has arrived, and levelling sand, I've a manitou for the weekend.

Horse engine to remove and cider press, then hardcore, then sand.

Early start tomorrow.

Didn't expect it to fall over, Doh !

a warning dont hardcore near the posts box around them

if your cementing near cement base them make sure you wrap around the posts

you dont want those posts rotting so main aim is to seal and coat them

Would wrapping them in dpm be okay ?

if its done the old way it would have been burnt oiled and tared

yours is old oak beams they are hard enough but still needed to be treated

you can either box round it and concrete it but if that post damages in years to come it gives you a chance to create a concrete post base footing

then they would be no need to sink oak into the ground

only saying as an option

Interesting day.

The first thing I hadn't anticipated was how big that Manitou was, not even six inches either side of the door going in and out, second thing, once in, manoeuvring was a bit of a nightmare, third thing, how crap I am at scooping up hardcore, and finally, fourth thing how difficult it is to level stuff with a Manitou.

Apart from all of that, I only twatted the manitou into the workshop twice....

They all pulled back into place fine, between wife having a lie in convinced I'd demolished half the house, she said it 'shook'.

Cider press came out, 500 kg Silverline block and tackle, still going strong.

Who hit that ? Better pull it straight....

Hardcore....

Got a quarter of the barn done. 4 post lift will go in here one day.

Going to have to find a bobcat to level it out, the sand will have to wait.

I agree with @Bornfree , a mini-digger is the tool for that job.
Then go over it with a heavy Wacker plate.
