Understood. For me, a belt works better for blending corners and straight edges together, and *I'd* take the lower power belt over the disc (assuming that a proper linisher is out of budget), but YMMV.

How about a grinder based belt sander, assuming you can fix the grinder down to bench or in vice. I may get one to try.

A friend that does Balcony installs and railings, uses a machine similar, its not a converted grinder but works very well. Great for cleaning up tube to a good finish. However I havent tried fixing it to a bench and using it to shape parts.

Plasma saves time particually with concave curves but wont let you do anything that couldnt already be done with just a grinder, cutting discs and flap discs. Its just quicker not having to go in a straight line.
I'd recommend a die grinder if there are any concave curves.

I dont believe a belt sander has much advantage over a flap disc, likely quicker, but then it takes a lot more space. With limited space, I wouldnt want one.

I dont believe I have worked on any walnuts yet, not very common? The log is a bit of leylandii.
