From repairing quite a few different cordless drills over the years I have noticed that the dewalt are no better built than any of the other run of the mill drills. The only units that stands out is the XRP drills with the 3 speed gearbox. Incredibly well built, good strong motor & gearbox plus wrist breaking torque in low gear!
On the other hand the Makitas are much better thought out & put together. The motors come in several bits so instead of having to buy a whole motor like dewalt & most others you can get each bit separately. It uses proper roller bearings in the motor instead of bronze bushings like everyone else. You can replace the brushes, on many other drills you have to fit a new motor as the brushes are part of it. In general their parts prices are quite reasonable & easy to source.
