DIY Tire Bead Breaker

I got one of those somewhere - really old thing - think it is called "grumach"? Is that the right word or is it just the make.

Dad had it when he was a agricultural fitter.

This is the kiddie for truck tyres - expensive but they work a treat. My mate has one - it is a joy to use.

I bought a truck tyre changing machine a few years ago, it breaks the bead and knocks the tyre clean off the rim while its rotating, it stuffs the new tyre on in the same manner. A lot quicker than it takes to type this , beast of a thing

I don't do many truck tyres - I tend to do the few by hand in an emergency.

They are all one trick ponies, that thing wont do a car tyre or a tractor tyre so you end up with three gadgets

After years of breaking beads with a spade, finally got round to this. Works very easy I must say.

Yes, whatever is at hand/nescesary.
My motorcycle tyres came of with a 300mm piece of18 mm bar I stuck inside the boxprofile.
I kept it compact so it folds away under the vice.

If I was on my work PC, I could find you a picture of a properly expensive one

To cut to a specific length to then be placed in a bespoke bit of Mitutoyo fancy all singing all dancing measuring machine.

Got that thing from a guy that bought it brand new and hardly used it, got it for half the price your mate paid for that bead breaker.

Funny as ####.... He paid full price as well. Yeah state of the art "bead breaker" will only work on front bead.

He owns a big plant hire company - I had to resort to a "hiab leg" to break the rear bead.

I was "wetting myself"...

That’s the same as the one I can get a shot of here if I need. It’s red and called a ‘sunshine’ but looks exactly the same as yours

ATS at Norwich had a larger version of this it was big enough for 42" rims. And when they stopped doing agri work it got scrapped. It wasn't even that old still looked like new.

That looks like the same unit as mine, I reckon about a minute is all it takes to change a tyre with one of these machines. That is one tardy demo

Yeah it’s quick. They get worse as they get older. It’s not so good at ripping off beads that are corroded on to steel farm trailer rims but most other things it great.

Except poxy durabrites

Bought something similar from ebay, garbage is being polite.
I find the bead breaker bit just slides down the tyre and won't dig in against the rim no matter which holes I use. Hope you have more success with yours.

all the succes thanks it has a sliding sleeve that goes over the rim and stops the breaker sliding off along the tire not shown in the picture i modified it afterwards
