Just to answer: I did mine with leccy mixer. Slab sections about 11 ftx8ft. Seven of them. Use a shutter board to cross section slab and put the Celotex or Flexcell inside the board,flush at top of board and the full depth of slab.. Pour up to Flexcell and when cured, take shutter board away. Pour next slab to other side of Flexcell now, and when all cured, cut or grind the Flexcell down 15mm for the depth of your sealant. 2 Part Polysulphide is the real deal for that £ouch, but just use any stuff you get a deal on ie Tubes of Sikaflex or silicone. On the slope, I left it off the screed stick with a diagonal pattern . That was to let water run off and yet give me a grip with tyres. As I got up to level part, I smoothed it out and polished it. To polish crushed granite which is 6mm to dust, lay down and screed it level. Give it a once over only, with a wooden or plastic float.....then leave. Depending on temps, give it a steel trowel an hour or two later. Another steel float 3/4 hrs later. Your last steel polish should be when it is almost solid, but with real pressure you can just get trowel marks out and see a damp sheen on surface. It is really like plaster finishing,ie. knowing and feeling the setting of your material.
For a six inch thick slab, 4" concrete and then the 2" of granite on top after concrete has been screeded and settled. Ie the concrete is still green, but not too wet. Someone mentioned "exposing" the granite earlier. You need to catch it in time to do it well. A deck scrubber and water about 8 hrs after laying and flatting does the trick. You can do that but time and weather will do it for you. That is Granolithic finish and some quarry's produce lovely granite that can sparkle. It gives decent grip too. Play with samples.
The original Flexcell and Celotex board were made of that pasteboard fibrous material 10-20mm thick. It seems to be foam now, but has the same purpose which is sectioning concrete.

nice write up Lexi thanks I take it the flexcell was only the thin boards, as the expansion joints don't need to be too wide do they.

You use the Flexcell board in 12mm if you want a 12mm expansion joint and so forth. 12mm is fine on driveway.
The granite is hard wearing and gives you option to polish without high tech concrete and power floating. It was the common method before Laycon power floated concrete came about.

I have never heard about that mix so no sand involved just cement water and the crushed granite,
I am liking the idea, so 4" of normal concrete then once this is green 2" of the granite mix ontop

I would love too but it would need planning it has a 5 or 6m long car port there now with planning all it needs is some doors and making water tight!

I had 17 tons of 0-31.5 delivered last Tuesday, spent the day with a rake, shovel and wheelbarrow, sadomasicistic pleasure in some respects. Then drove back and forth all over it, just borrowed a wacker, so should be deaf and shaking this evening. I will probably need another 8 or 10 tonnes. Here's a before and after shot.

Great to drive in and out, no good whatsoever for a trolley jack, need a good plank or a concrete floor.
That's it. 6MM chips to dust gives you sand size fines in the mix. Remember green means uncured............you knew that

yeh I knew that usually still green a day or 2 after its been laid referes to the colour right
