A chap on one forum had loads of problems as he helpfully sent photos from every stage of the build and somebody questioned some details and it opened up a load of problems that should never have existed.

Not to this level but when engine swapping cars with newer engines I used to do full loom swaps.
First example was a 1.6 16v Tigra engine into a 1989 Nova. The engine and box dropped in and the wiring (with a few plugs chopped and soldered) gave me electric windows, central locking, immobilizer etc

Later swaps used a stripped down loom, but kept the full engine loom intact, I reckon the Jag loom will have plenty to strip out but it's very doable with some time and thought

yes in my head it all seems doable, the wiring loom shouldent care or even know what car its riding in, but theres going to be things i havent yet thought of like on the jaguar forums many are reporting check engine lights and gearbox dropping into limp mode because of abs sensor issues , if the reluctor ring on the hub becomes encrusted with crap or the sensor fails then it flags abs fault, the gearbox relies on a road speed input from the abs unit to know when to change gear with out this its limp mode, now im not using the jaguar hubs and abs rings maybe the sensors will fit in the discovery hubs or made to fit and then i dont know if the rings are the same pulse count throwing the speed and change point out if they arnt, and then theres the hand brake which is electric that wont be making the journey over to the disco but it sends a signal to the engine ecu stopping full revs if the handbrake is on, but in my mind it can only be a switch thats on or off so join the wire or cut the wires, if i was defeatist i would be using a morris minor engine lol

you cant imagine an exposed engine getting through an iva can you, and i will need a back bumper incorporating some sort of wheel arch to comply with what they are asking for

To be honest a speed signal should be fairly simple to find and modify, similar to or even use one of the tacho boxes that modify rev counter pulses when doing diesel to petrol or even 4 cylinder to V6 swaps

Of the three 'buses' you only need to worry about the CAN bus. The other two manage the 'toys'.

The fact that the S-Type and the Disco are both JLR products from the same era should help with your mixing and matching. I think the ABS related issues are the biggest potential hurdle.
Does the IVA permit ABS, EBA, Airbags etc? In the past these had to be inoperative even if the donor had them as standard.

Sadly I have no direct useful hints and tips to offer. I do know that on the X308 with that engine all the 'toys' can be deleted without any impact on the drive train electronics - eldest gutted and decapitated one.

There's nothing saying that an exposed engine is not allowed. It would only have to meet the radius requirements. The hot bits don't seem to count, see every exposed exhaust on Seven replicas.

good job abs is allowed really as the gearbox relies on the abs count to function

i was thinking about the rotating parts whizzing round, would take some ones finger off and the exhausts they use would sear your finger prints off if a child grabbed them

anyway back to the job in hand, as i want to strip both chassis right down and get them blasted in need to remove every last nut and bolt, im getting old and dont like groveling on the floor so i looked at 2 post car lifts but too pricey for my deep pockets and i want to be able to relocate what ever lift i buy to my garage at home when its finished so i just bought this, the idea being to lift the chassis up and slip a tall trolley/bench under it and then i can push it about and have the suspension at hip height, it lifts 1200kg to 3m high way past what i need

its the rear wheel arches that i see as problematic on my project, there arnt generally any there lol
