Pretty sure the warnings say don't use this sort of thing if you have tinitus

I know someone else who ended up with a perforated ear drum when her normal nhs doctor syringed her ear wax so even the professionals get it wrong sometimes

Think Specsavers do suction removal rather than syringing, don't have any bad stories about that, lol. My dad had this done a couple of times

it does warn about otex and tinnitus I read it to day.

I can find the irrigation machines as used by the NHS and they are not too expensive but cant find anythat spec savers use. I did take a punt at a cheap pair but they were that bad I told them to collect them and they said keep them and heres your refund..lol but they were that useless I binned them anyway..

remember it only takes 1 psi to burst an ear drum , so make sure you dont get a seal if you go squirting things in your ears ,,,

Absolutely Tom! Exactly why the surgeon that rebuilt my wife’s ear said that syringing is a definite no no, and unless a specialist is doing it, you should put nothing smaller than your elbow in your ear!!

I used to dispense sodium bicarbonate ear drops on prescription. The formula is 500mg sodium bicarbonate, 2ml glycerol and water to 10ml.
Glycerol has a creeping action, it is 'adhesive' to surfaces, unlike water which is 'cohesive' (like to stick to itself).

These days I make my own, a pinch of bicarb is enough, dribble of glycerol. I then fill the ear dropper completely, squirt some into my ear, refill the dropper, then with the dropper in my ear, I gently squeeze and release the bulb. Keep squeezing and releasing. Kitchen roll behind my ear, keep going, keep refilling the dropper and I'm amazed at the carp in the dropper.

Local place wanted £80 so I bought a syringe kit off eBay for £7 and did it myself. Disgusting brown lumps came out and I can hear again.

I have this sort now, the brand I have doesn't seem to exist any more, but there are lots of variations around.

For long trips, touring europe etc on the bike, I used to use soft silicon that you mould into shape and shove into the ear. They are a fair bit quieter than the ones in the pic, but a bit fiddly to use.

I used to use the sponge ones at work and had problems with my ears going deaf in my left ear and suffering dizziness. The doctor told me to treat my ears with warm olive oil and come back in a week to get them syringed. I went back and she did my ears and the stuff that came out of them was like gravy with lumps in. I walked out of the surgery onto the High Street and almost sh@t myself at the noise as a lorry went past. This was about 40 years ago.

I have had some horrific stuff come out my ears, a couple of times I've sluiced out what appears to be the inner skin sleeve of my ears. Literally. a hideous 'tube' of wrinkly awful looking stuff.
