Here are my saws so far. I have two more hacksaws to find, the fret saw, and the wire frame junior hacksaw, then my display will be complete. I’m thinking they’ll look good hanging up along the back wall of the workshop.

Bonus points to myself for the saws with the blue Eclipse blades on! The General Purpose saw is really hopeless, one of the worst I’ve used. The 40PG is okay, but it’s cumbersome. The 55 sheet saw wanders a little but generally good for the intended purpose. The 60B knackers your wrist sawing downwards. The Pad Handle is great, just the job, and I have no fibreboard or asbestos sheet to cut so I couldn’t test the 56.

I was issued with an Eclipse hack saw like the one in your first pic when I started my apprenticeship in 1978. Still use it regularly now!

Always found the eclipse broken hacksaw blade holder really useful .

I have a small collection of pad saw handles I love them

I can't use hacksaws. every time I use one, I get something akin to tennis elbow which keeps me up for at least one night, if not two.
wierdly, other handsaws don't - even tenon saws which have the same range of movement

I have umpteen Powertools for crosscutting timber - I still use my Disston

Power tools also have the propensity to go wrong quickly.

Spade bits and power augers are a big one. I love my bit brace with roll of augers, had to do some holes in ply lately which with a spade bit almost guarantees tear out, but not by hand from both ends

Forstner bits for plywood.
but yes, from both sides always.
unless you're going to run a roundover but in the router round them.

I didn’t win a prize but I’m not sure I’d want it anyway, since it’s all made overseas anyway now.

the eclipse hacksaws are rubbish I have a dozen different makes from autojumbles . paid 4 to 6 quid eachh for them I find the best is the bacho one. its rigid doesn't flex and is ergonomically friendly . it just feels right https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0001IX...=9046803&hvtargid=pla-436465667413&th=1&psc=1

Not with a decent spade bit.
Once your auger/point is through flip and drill from the other side. Have some with horns either side of the spade to trepan the initial cut.
Great for veneers to avoid breakout.

Sad, to read that. Anyway i am now only buying USA, UK, or European made tools, Starrett is a favorite brand of mine, expensive but you get what you pay for in this world. Been stung too many times with crappy asian junk, you wind up buying twice.
