Years ago when i was serving my time, and was sent away for block release, at that time you got your pay but it was tax free, so i had a few bob for once. There was a decent tool shop around the corner from the college, and they were clearing out their engineering tools, mostly eclipse and starrett, old stock they had, yours truly bought most of it.

Is any moore and wright tools made in the uk now ? Some of their mic's are still marked "Made in England".

they may be old ones.....as far as I know M&W went years ago

Mind you Viners used to stamp their cutlery "made in Sheffield" and they were only polished here

I bought a pair of kitchen scissors in aldi a while back, marked made in sheffield, they seemed very cheap for something made in the uk.

Taylor eye witness still make in sheffield i think.

The 20T. There’s an earlier and better design. This is nice though. All later ones are boring as hell.

Another one down. 27W, the wire frame coping saw. Tried using it, proper crap, unlike the lovely 7CP. On the wall it goes!

The wire frame ones are a joke, compared to the proper ones. Otoh, they vary a lot, and I've had one which was actually reasonable to use.
I'm referring to the junior hacksaws, not the coping saws. There's less metal to get flexy with, but they can still be very bad, indeed.

Yeah, the blade always kinks on the wire ones.

Plus, there's a flood of crap blades on the market, branded as decent ones.
Worst ones I've had lasted about ten strokes before being as bald as a coot.
They were so bad I found it funny.

Second only to the ‘bargain’ sandpaper I had the misfortune to buy in a well known diy store.

3 or 4 strokes and it was fit only for the bin.

Annoying thing is, it would probably cost me more in fuel to take the damned stuff back......

my 4-y/o made better with a prittstick and playsand.

You probably wont want to as a 'collector' , but if you silver solder the narrow end of the handle together, it stiffens them up massively.

Fortunately since they’re going on the ‘museum board’ they don’t get used.

I do like to at least try them out though. The 60B gives a decent cut and I do quite like it. 20T, 40PG, 55, 56 and 66 I don’t hold too favourably... but they look pretty which is why I have them!

The little junior hacksaw comes in handy from time to time. Junior blades are never hardened I don’t think, even the eclipse ones wear out quickly.

I am having trouble finding details of the Eclipse 90g and 91g girder saws. To hell with cutting a girder with a hacksaw... the latter had a frame depth of 10.25”
