The so called Greens are really the anti nuclear lobby under a new name. No nuclear at any cost but open cast mining of lignite and burning the filthy stuff is fine. Hypocrites the lot of them. They don't really give a stuff about the planet as long as there is no more nuclear power in Germany.
That's because they are currently not needed as there s plenty of juice being provided elsewhere all ready .There already are a load of turbines on the hills around me. Not visible from my house fortunately but I drive past them every day. Some of them never turn a blade

I was reading some military stuff years ago that assesses /concluded the garbage about microwave cooking being dangerous was originated in Russia & China because if their families had electricity & used them their grids would die within seconds of every main meal time period .starting as the microwave were switched on . Ironically after Chernobyl they closed a few of their nuclear power stations and then started buying more electricity off Russia, who then started building more nuclear powerstations to supply the demand

Is it not more that the sun is gradually getting bigger as it depletes its own power source.
That is an incredibly slow process but will have some effect. Ironically as the sun cools it gets bigger and so we get hotter as the surface gets closer to us. It will become a Red Giant. Of course in 5 billion years who will care? The earlier stages of this process will mean the sun getting hotter and hotter which will cause massive global warming so the planet will long be uninhabitable long before that.

Viable systems? If you consider a system that provides 10-11% efficiency, with an installer who jumped ship as soon as the Bribe level dropped, with no warranty to replace failed inverters etc.... to be "viable".....
..... but even though they are cheaper - with the much lower FIT you might say that the situation remains the same - in that, viewed purely on the cost/return benefit, that at 10-11% efficiency Solar just ain't that exciting.... and the interest in adoption is fed more by legal necessity on new build, than by adoption by the masses upon its performance merit.
Sorry @GRW you are wrong. Sure the FIT made people want them, which made companies set up to fit them, filling the need etc. Sure, some were indeed cowboys, but not all. Are they all still doing it - not by a long chalk, but they do exist. My daughter had an accredited system two years ago, non fit, our rugby club put 9kW on the roof, non fit. All viable with 10 yr or so payback.

and all the old grannies that will freeze to death this winter because they can't pay their bills...
