I would have thought ALL electricity supplied to the grid is metered somewhere? Surely they need to know for load balancing and demand etc etc?
Of course a solar farm would be metered - the reason solar isn’t an accurate figure is the amount of small scale, or domestic if you prefer, installations which aren’t (usually) metered except for billing purposes. Each one is small but collectively they could add up to a reasonable amount.

I think that’s what they do but not at a household level - they know the data for all the major sources going into the grid (power stations, hydro wind farms etc) and what’s left is attributable to “something else” - or small scale generation, which could be hydro/wind but overwhelmingly is likely to be solar.

I'm in a bungalow too, my bedroom has sliding doors into the back yard, and it's always chilly in my room late evening, no matter how hot the d ay was.

As a business we (can't name them), made use of the FIT and installed a load of hydro and solar, and a tiny bit of wind. Now the FIT has gone we are still installing behind the meter solar (because it stacks up), and also looking to partner with wind schemes. Who knows, I might get to build a hydro or two, but because I built all the viable ones under FIT the only hydro left is direct to grid (the output of which is transferred to us for the same price we pay for wholesale for the rest of our leccy - simples?)
In winter some days very little but if it's sunny & blue sky a decent amount . Last week was strange we had bright but slightly over cast sky and we were trickling out 69 watts at 07.20 hrs 3/4 of an hour later nothing till 10.30 hrs . Perhaps the sky cover was reflecting a useful amount .
I doubt the grid generators take into account any solar below a certain size, even half hourly metered wouldn't get picked up until next day. Domestic NHH - quarterly...

Isn't that the reason for the domestic FIT meter it registers generated pulses from the inverter and counts them to alter the meter readings , then we just sent a picture of the new meter reading when asked or on the FIT billing day or a meter reader comes to physically check our honesty once a blue moon or if we've had an unusually high reading different as to what their computers have forecast . Back in HQ FIT Land they then do their calculations as to how much has been generated and how much has to be paid out
Yes, but the generators don't get to see your data until months later, if ever. Hence it can only be estimated for their figures. Your supplier pays you, the other millions of consumers, including you, pay them.

An old 92 yr old I knew as a 10 yr old kid ( 1960 ) used to trudge along the bank of the river Witham about a mile out each day to his former condemned 2 acre property and always came back with a half filled 18 stone cornsack of chopped green privet hedging which he'd planted years before . After cutting & chopping his daily quota , he'd dry it off around their council house Rayburn stove in winter or outside in summer then store in their outhouses till needed .
He was 92 in 1960, yet in 1984 he was still climbing rigging?
