Wind still dire. Less that 1gw/h and less than 2% of our supply. And yet people still claim it is always windy somewhere. Well this proves it isn't!

Of course we can get the reverse. Wind can provide over 40% of our needs sometimes. Not disputing that. But when we really need it there can be none at all. What do we do then? Like today? And the last week or 2?

I quite enjoy doing 84 in a 70 - doesn't attract Plod and gets the journey over quicker.
It's also on the safest road in the country.
I regularly get passed on it, too.

I was on the local Interstate a while back.
The speed limit is 80 mph, traffic was going 95 and some were still passing.
I think the cops had just given up.
I doubt my older car would have lived through a hundred miles of that.

Come to Bradford in a private car (exempt from the new clean air charge . . . although how that works when the wind blows all the dirty air from outside Bradford in, I don't know ).

Attempt to visit various areas, in the city and the outskirts, while maintaining your own lane discipline, and lets say, within 5mph of the posted speed limits, and I guess, staying on your side of the road, possibly even travelling in the indicated direction down one way streets, occasionally considering slowing down a touch for red traffic lights . .. maybe even join the queue waiting at a red light, rather than drive down the outside, at speed . . .

And then post again . . .

I'm a major car enthusiast - I want more un-marked, more marked, more speed guns hiding behind dustbins, lamposts, post boxes . . .

What’s bankrupting the country? Nothing, that’s just hyperbole. We are paying a lot for energy at the moment but it’s not a phenomenon isolated to the uk.

The fact that the energy market works weirdly and every energy source gets the same price of the highest, so it’s inevitably linked to gas.

There’s your culprit. If we were 50% nuclear we would be paying the same price.

And without renewables the price would be more, much more. We would be completely at ransom.
We will be importing green power from Norway, the link will almost certainly be maxed to capacity. The interconnects are part of the future, moving the green power around Europe as required.

You seem an intelligent man, with very valid points but I struggle to see where you’re coming from against turbines and PV panels. Do you honestly think the problem of moving or even storing some of the power, combined with efficiency is a bigger problem than climate change?

I have a wind powered car … I pay a sum every day for the privilege and pay again when I use it. If I can’t use it because there is no wind … I still pay for it.

So I also need a solar car, that I also pay for every day, today was heavily overcast and the battery is flat… so I can’t drive that one either, but still pay the same anyway…

That means I need a gas car … which usually works but upsets people, so I have to pay even more to own and use it despite the fact I’m already paying for a wind car and a solar car. But at least I can actually use the thing.

But because “gas is killing the planet “ and I need reliable transport I also need a nuclear car… that costs even more and upsets even more people, but I have to have that because the first 2 are far too unreliable

So I pay 4 times to get a single workable product ,,, would you buy this car?

How would it be more? We are only using 2% renewables and even when they are doing well they get paid the same as gas! And yes so does nuke and solar - madness to be linked to the gas prices!

But you don't get a single workable product, you get four. One gas car isn't big enough to carry your whole family, you need four, so surely it makes sense to have a wind and a solar one to use most of the time when it's sunny or windy, the misses can drive the nuclear when you're out in the renewable, and you may as well have a gas for the still cloudy days, or big days out when you need all four cars.

When you have lost a loved one due to some prat thinking the rules don’t apply to them maybe, just maybe you will think differently!

I'm sorry for your loss.
However - it's not tripe.
I average over 30,000 miles annually - I get to see first-hand whats happening on the roads (roads all over Wales at least - mostly, though I get up as far as Manchester and east as far as London on occasion).
I'm not defending the unhinged, the dangerous, the reckless, the dismally inept, the wholly incompetent - I'm out amongst them most days of the week.

However, I am defending the generally law-abiding, good driver who is unquestionably the main target of the Scamera Schemes - and the persecution and the way they operate demonstrably has sod-all to do with genuine road safety. That is what I rail against (& so should you if you truly want safer roads).

"Speed Kills" is a handy strapline - but it's a naive and misleading one.
The truth is that "Bad Driving Kills" (which of course includes the wrong speed at the wrong time/ place/ conditions).
Catching the truly bad drivers though, requires proper policing and investment, where lowering limits and using Scamera's does not (although "GoSafe" Partnership got over £24M of taxpayer money last year alone - & thats without their "Earnings").

Stupidly low posted limits and high-traffic-volume Scamera deployment does nothing to address the root cause.
Scamera's don't catch the truly appalling and the unhinged, or those with a total disregard for others.... because they don't deploy them when or where they are likely to catch them (& if they did snap them, they cannot apprehend them).

The only thing Scamera's do successfully - is take money from Licensed Drivers with a properly registered vehicle.
They dont & won't save many lives - its not their true purpose, nor are they suitable as an effective method.... they are there to get money.

"The Rules" are being altered to suit an agenda that (while of course claiming the Limits & Scamera's are for public safety) has other objectives in reality.... and only the blind or ignorant can fail to see that.

If you want better road safety, then you should want your taxes spent on genuinely effective policing and sensible action - not supporting a system that's much much more interested in your money than in any life.

I don't agree with electric car bashing when they don't deserve it.
Everyone seems to think this fire was caused by electric cars. More likely an overheated brake drum on the lorry.

For the first season of the (then) new all-electric "Moto-E" motorcycle racing series run over several MotoGP Rounds..... the entire grid's bikes went up on a massive fireball at Jerez at a pre-season test a couple of years ago.

Probably the fire started when the batteries were being charged (as it is when its most likely) - but "luckily" Jerez's Paddock and Facilities escaped any damage, because all the Moto-E machines and Infrastructure had been housed in Temporary Garages, sited in the centre of the track infield, so far,away from the Pits, Grandstands etc.

Of course, the keen among you will have already worked out, that the obvious question to ask on this is...

"If the tech is so safe and secure - then why did the organisers choose to take the unprecedented step of garaging the Moto-E bikes 200 metres away from any infrastructure, instead of in the purpose-built pit-boxes that every other racing machine uses?"
