A while back Bosh was trying to sell the CVT for electric vehicles.I watched a couple of the early episodes, one of which had the electric motor running through the stock 5 speed car gearbox. And I've heard since that the sheer torque of the motor at low rpm, through a reduction box, would simply grenade the rear end right from the start. Interesting to watch, for a while, but ultimately pointless conversions.
They were offering then with the control computer programmed for the specific motor.
I believe the performance offered an additional 4% in power economy and improved performance.
