I use plastic storage tubes a bit like @premmington but mine are ex MOD mortar cases (I think). They are big enough to get a box of rods in and totally waterproof. I bought them years ago. I did look for more the other week and there were some on the bay.
I do tend to buy the Esab packs that have enough for a shift in recently. Works well
