I keep my 6013`s in the wifes top draw. Got to be used for something.

We used to earth them out and dry them with the old school transformer type plant, but when I attempted to do the same via an inverted, it didn't play ball at allkeep em in the airing cupboard or dry them out with a blowtorch before use / or you can just hit the rod on the earth clamp and it heats up and steams and your good to go
Shorting them out certainly dries them but If you get that bit too hot you can start to burn away additions...The coating of a 6013 contains Ferro-Manganese, it strengthens, deoxidises and soaks up excess Sulphur, but at 550oC it starts to burn away.

Hi. For most rods Like 6013 7014 I keep in an old fridge with a 60w light bulb Here in Manitoba
Low hydrogen rods like 7018 are the rods recommended for almost all construction work
if working to code they must be kept in a rod oven even on site. for general farm welding they
are used like any other rods and mostly used for all heavy duty repair welding
