Aye, I believe they call it 'squeaky bum' time - esp as a replacement would cost c. £1,000 from BMW if it all went wrong [Adaptive Xenons] . Worth the end result though
View attachment 147129 All the big bits back together now. Need a few new fasteners for the belt cover and a nut for the depth stop. Then find some bravery to put the spring back on to the quill arbor. Oh and have to strip and clean the chuck.
The spring is easy. Assemble it slack and then wind the aluminium knob anti-clockwise until the quill is held fully home. Don't forget to tighten the lock screw into one of the holes in the knob. The pin should be a standard taper pin. You can get them from eBay or any decent engineers' supplier.
If it is the same as a Meddings the nuts for the depth stop are a large diameter with a very fine thread. I discovered that the thin lock nuts that come on electrical sensors & bulkhead mount switches are the same thread. You might have to raid the parts store at work, that's where I found mine!
