I skimmed all three of those sites and couldn't see any reference to the new data collection charges you mention? I'm more than happy to be corrected if I missed a section.

30 minute data collection is already an option and a benefit to those on a smart tariff (I opted for it the moment I had a smart meter fitted, and have reaped the benefits).
I don't see why this becoming the default is an issue.

A whole new business model and way for someone to make a fortune, I'm surprised it has taken this long.

Logically, if the numbers of meters become anything like the target, who do you think is going to pay for data collection and aggregation? Existing commercial contracts charge something like £220 a meter point for this. (Or they did last time I checked).

what proof, after skim reading those three links you posted, the is no mention of prices and costs.

So they charge us to collect Our data, save Engineering time (Both meter types offer a reduction in engineer resource required to manually collect energy data from meters.) and charge more for the product, looks like a Win Win WIN idea.
Speaking to 2 small firms 10/20 employees, 1 shutting Xmass the other in March both owners in their late 50early 60, both saying the overheads are killing them and it's not worth the worry and risk any more.

• Complexity – The introduction of half-hourly metering for electricity results in a bewildering array of additional charges associated with business energy supplies. This increased complexity imposes an administrative burden on business operators and owners.

I know this is aimed at business meters, but dont think the normal consumer will not be targeted

We have an electricity which is, on the most part, thoroughly dependable, & allows us a lifestyle & comfort a lot of countries could only dream of. Worth paying for, IMHO.

as above reference gives you the data collection reference and like the info i have being saying for long enough on this forum

there isnt 30 million meters on buisness as it does quote 2.6 million being business so that clearly references household energy meters

as like the above its being kept well hidden and it takes some finding

i quoted the business amount for reference but dont put it past them not to install it on consumer bills like they do with business

so if i was to say your going to pay between 220.00 to 500.00 extra a year on your bills and thats for all meters

on that link you posted its made it very clear both your standing charge is going to be higher

and the customer pays for them to collect your data

this reference is for businesses at the moment but it will be coming over to the consumer of households

All Half Hourly Meter customers must also pay Meter Operator (MOP) charges. Your Meter Operator is accountable for installing and sustaining your Half Hourly Meter. A MOP fee is a charge to cover the costs of any services provided by your meter operator. The charges are outlined in a MOP contract, which can be arranged through your supplier or independently.

Perhaps a different story in France. I lost my faithful electromechanical meter a month ago, I mourn its passing because for four years it was permanently stuck on "heures creuse" which is the night rate. Soregies my supplier never flagged it over those years, I am just a lowly consumer so it was not my job to notice.
So I could keep my old meter but I would be billed €120 per year for a person to visit and read and two years down the line would have to pay for the install of a smart meter because the mandate is to get rid of all none telemetry meters. My new online account displays what and who I am paying and data collection is absent from the items.

As a business user being charged for data collection, you can pick your own data collection and handling agents - you don't have to accept the default agent from the supplier. If it does end up applying to domestic use, then you will more than likely be able to do the same.

whilst i dont mind the once a month data collection i do mind with the 1/2 hour collection of data

i also find it insulting for them to collect said data yet charge the customer for collecting said data whilst also charging us with new peak times charges

so are you using time of use yet ?

as goes for energy usage they can tell by the power that you use if your home is insulated or not

it does make me wonder if we will get cold callers with the insulation market to insulate our homes

the said data is to be connected with the census data collected sort of postcode power generation

this means rural areas will also be affected by postcode lottery on the tariffs charges where they could see price increases due to there location
