Epoxy primer

I'm currently using Jotun Jotamastic epoxy primer on my VW Split bus. It's a marine product and is fantastic. If you want to read up on this, I used Shepherd Marine. They are very helpful. Their website has loads of info on all of their paints.

Like langy said before, it's waterproof. It dries to a plasticy feel and just feels right. Dries quite hard though so plenty of work to flat.

4litre tin with hardener is about £45. Thinner 5litre is about £20

google Jotun or Shepherd Marine and take a look. I can thoroughly recommend this stuff.

This is what Epoxy looks like when dry, sort of a sheeny finish, best to key next day as it gets very hard if left.

My lechler epoxy will be on its way monday. The way i may go is get all my bare metal parts baked to loose the moisture then epoxy them and bake the epoxy to egg shell hard then key it up to do the mud work. Followed by the max mayer 2k surfacer
It looks well tinted by the way. Is that a bare metal resto youve got on?

Drew you can bake it if you like but it will be very tough to key up again, I let mine air dry and key next day as its easier.

I was wondering why you are going to use a surfacer ??? I do my fillerwork on top of the epoxy then i apply 1 coat of epoxy and after 1hr go wet on wet with 2 pack high build.

I mean after the filler go on with a few coats of 2k max mayer high build. i love the max mayer high build.

Try the Lechlar Green TI 5-1 mix its a dream to use, goes on real nice and flats off great dry or wet.
Whats the MM primer your using ???

Its a 5-1 mix not sure about the model number very high build and if thinned for streighter panels goes on real well. I always try to use the best i can im not 1 for getting the cheapest but i wont pay stupid prices like some what you see. Im sure tje green ti and max.mayer are similar priced

Got the epoxy today!! I havent used it yet nut the first thing i noticed is the extremely strong smell and on the side of the tin where they have tinted it it is rock solid.

Langy if epoxy spray is that tough, how do you clean your gun?

Thinners right after painting then jet it out eith thinnets

Sorry for late reply as been away the weekend.
Just use usual gunwash but get it clean and don't leave it as its bloody hard to get out once dried.

Does the hardener for epoxy primer contain isocyanate?

Yes its a 2k product i think there msy be others but maybe not as good

You can get 1k epoxy too, don't know what its like as i've never used it.

House of Kolor KDA2000 is an isocyanate free 2K epoxy primer.

No, I haven't used it, but I'm going to buy some and give it a try soon.

I've had another look at the House of Kolor website and KDA2000 is the activator/hardener, KD2000 is the actual primer.
