is the screenwash tubing preheated?

A mod I didn't think to do on my GTC, so the washer jets froze. I will revisit that when I have time, a few wraps of the tubing around a heater hose is the normal method.

Alternatively, start the engine up and let it defrost on the driveway? No app required, and no - not illegal.

Might want to check your insurance policy wording ...I suspect you might cause yourself some problems if it did go for a walk!

Pretty likely to have an unattended vehicle clause I would imagine.

Thats because you are away for work, and by the mere fact you work, in effect makes you and the rest of us all the peasants. Joking aside, the ability to defrost the car and warm the seats up etc is a good thing.

Is it done by heating elements in the different parts of the car, or by heated air on recirc.

Living very rurally I just start it up and leave it running, no fear of it going walk about, but in the towns I can see the concern with all the uncontrolled teenage idiots on the loose. Not all teenagers mind, there are many decent kids about too.

Combination of things, the air con is a heat pump but it has heated screen, heated seats, steering wheel etc

Out of interest, does the automatic de-icing work on the headlights and rear light clusters, and is the screenwash tubing preheated?

The lights are always clear and the screen wash defrosted, not sure if that's intentional or incidental

Oooooh no, scraping ice is like going back to the stone age. My 2004 Combo van has a remote control Webasto pre heater. Toasty and defrosted after ten minutes. Separate tank, so no fear of reducing range either.

There are still plenty of bright, extremely hard working youngsters that come through the system, often despite.

It's worth noting that, GCE,GCSE, O, A and T levels are pretty much irrelevant if you going into the STEM field. They are just a stepping stone to university, which is a stepping stone to a masters, which is a stepping stone to a PhD. And then your real education starts when you actually get into research.

So while it is disappointing that school standards are slipping, and it means more catching up at uni, it doesn't necessarily equate to less quality out the other end. It takes an incredible amount of work to get through the system, which has the effect of sorting the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.

Still, it would be nice to see STEM encouraged at all levels to get kids interested while they are young IMO.

Judging by the fantastic continuous improvements in university results where 2:1s and firsts are the norm and not the exception, something has changed!

I came across some cse papers in the loft from 1966 to 1972. The main difference to modern papers was each question had several sentences, there was not a diagram to be seen.

Heat loss through airflow is simple physics, when it comes to shedding heat from a surface.

Wind Chill is the effect humans feel (ok, and other animals). It's purely a made-up term for the warning of humans that cold is deadly stuff.

Farside , don't you recall having to tie thick hessian corn sacks or fit special mufflers over front engined car radiators in severe frosty weather .? It's also a good reason to point radiator ends of cars to a wall so th wind chill does not kill the anti freeze treated coolant . I Germany we had three bottle of different antifreeze strengths on a shelf out side our guardrooms in the winter months . They were checked for crystals of ice every 20 min in severe cold weather .
Three time in 15 yrs of service life I was dragged out my slumbers to get dressed as warm as I could and go and help drain all vehicle rads of trucks parked outside as the temp was south of - 25 oC

There is no such thing as Wind Chill on an inanimate object.
The remainder is physics.

For A level physics I built a hot wire wind gauge...it relied on the wind cooling a heated coil of wire in the wind flow Vs a control coil not in the flow....seem to remember it worked quite well.

It does relate to “living things” generally I believe. Wind chill won’t make anything colder than the ambient temperature, only how quickly it gets there.
