A trained 26 yr old surveyor turned up to help me set out the levels of an 80 degree slope over an area of 20 mtrs by 40 mtrs .I agree most educational attainment has been adjusted……or are we just grumpy old men with rose tinted glasses of the old days!
Farside , don't you recall having to tie thick hessian corn sacks or fit special mufflers over front engined car radiators in severe frosty weather .? It's also a good reason to point radiator ends of cars to a wall so th wind chill does not kill the anti freeze treated coolant . I Germany we had three bottle of different antifreeze strengths on a shelf out side our guardrooms in the winter months . They were checked for crystals of ice every 20 min in severe cold weather .On any heat producing object
It makes you wonder with all this dilution of worthwhile STEM subjects globally how the hell we have managed to discover Higgs Bosun and developed automomous electric vehicles not to mention the little Covid vaccine thing .

Sorry Dave I can't do it the batteries are flat , he bleatd. ...... He was amazed when I laid a mtr of thin tube on a decent 6 foot level and got him to tape up stakes for me . Even more gobsmacked when I did the 3, 4, 5 triangle for right angles using a str120 KG bs Dacrom seafishing line pulled taut & tied to horizontals using nails at the cross over points as well as tied on knots on the Dacron to mark the 3 & 4 points
A few months late as we were ready to errect the portal building he turned up as he was passing by . Using his electronic stuff he was amazed I'd got it as good as any site he'd surveyed.
I asked him how did he think the pyramid master mason builders got such an accuracy if it wasn't for maths and reasoning .
No. I gave my 1966 maths 'O' level paper to a friend, a maths teacher. He took it in to show colleagues. They were astounded at the level if the questions.I agree most educational attainment has been adjusted……or are we just grumpy old men with rose tinted glasses of the old days!
Thats all to do with a lack of basic discipline and respect for the system. Just like these little scrotes zipping round the streets thinking they can do what they like because they are wanna be gangsta….a separate topic really.I don't recall our school sending letters out to parents complaining about 20% truancy in year 11 (that is 5th year in old money), which is what has happened recently. There were only a few brave souls who would risk the deputy head's displeasure.
Did he mention aliens?I asked him how did he think the pyramid master mason builders got such an accuracy if it wasn't for maths and reasoning
All this amazes me really. The Romans and their straight roads are quite easy to figure. I used to live near to Strood in Kent. We used to play on the railway sidings there, and all the other mischief, but there is the Strood railway tunnel that runs from Strood to Higham. Built originally as a canal tunnel in 1830ish, (you can find the history online if interested) It is two and a half miles long through chalk, and if you stand in the middle of tracks, which I have, you can see the light at the other end !A trained 26 yr old surveyor turned up to help me set out the levels of an 80 degree slope over an area of 20 mtrs by 40 mtrs .

Agree ...but important to remember it's the exams that they dumbed down ...not the people taking them!In my opinion the great dumbing down started with the GCSEs.
Very true. However, if you're not given the tools to make learning easier, you're at a distinct disadvantage.Agree ...but important to remember it's the exams that they dumbed down ...not the people taking them!
I did GCSEs...as said above they were just a stepping stone to something else.
I got 10 GCSEs ....if I had done O'levels maybe would have got 5 but that would still have been a great result. I don't think anyone assumes they're 1-1.

This is what I think when I see people scraping ice off their windscreen, instead of using an app while having breakfast
Alternatively, start the engine up and let it defrost on the driveway? No app required, and no - not illegal.
Park the car in the garage overnight - or is that another joke...

Or better yet, just get the chauffeur to pick you up, dear boy.
Out of interest, does the automatic de-icing work on the headlights and rear light clusters, and is the screenwash tubing preheated?I've been away this week, very nice stepping out of a hotel to a warm, defrosted car
Preconditioning the battery is done by putting the charging station as the sat nav destination, in the cold if I don't do that it charges at about 18kw until the battery warms up, usually takes 10 mins or so

Thats because you are away for work, and by the mere fact you work, in effect makes you and the rest of us all the peasants. Joking aside, the ability to defrost the car and warm the seats up etc is a good thing. No garages at the hotels I use, I must get an upgrade next time
Dead right there. Just look up the operating parameters for each of the different Lithium battery chemistries. They will all discharge at low temperatures (albeit more slowly) but the minimum charging temperature is out there for those that have a brain.Sounds a lot like the user being clueless , unable as to comprehend the user manual or think things through , so squawks like a cockerel about to get it's neck wrung .
I have avoided using unnecessary apps, etc - so far (my only app is for charging/paying at the Tesla superchargers that are now open to any marque).Out of interest, does the automatic de-icing work on the headlights and rear light clusters, and is the screenwash tubing preheated?
