And 1/3 is easy to visualise too.You can express 1/3 fractional but not decimally. 0.33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333

Apparently 40% of people who took o levels in 60s and 70s would pass. When I was at school in the 70's we had O levels in grammar schools and CSE's in secondary schools, in fact our year trialed one of the upcoming GCSE exams so I ended up getting English language in both O level and GCSE
Now your not allowed to fail incase you get offended. I did mine in 78 and did far better than I or the school predicted!Apparently 40% of people who took o levels in 60s and 70s would pass.
Having a few cold weather runs now under my belt in my E Berlingo .Reached -7 up here last night. Wife charged the Leaf overnight and has driven to Harewood house. No drama, she used heating, heated seats, heated rear windscreen, radio, indicators and other electrical features without issue. Road didn't break up under the pressure of all those electrons either
Try turning a unit of length into decimals using just a pair of dividers. . Then if you are intelligent you'll realise that 1/2 , 1/4 , 1/8 , 1/16 , 1/32 & 1/ 64 ths are a very clever & accurate way of measuring that has been used for centuries .Metric is base 10 just like money….imperial is as you said fractions and not intuitive. And I can do fractions….I guesstimate in feet and inches, but measure in metric. Though in machining thou works too
You been measuring Wisbech style ? Most normal people have eight fingers & two thumbs .Makes a lot more sense that the base used is the same as the number of fingers we all have!
Metric/decimals just fractions with the denominator limited to multiples of 10.
I understand the theory, but a 1/64th of a fathom isnt very clear reallyTry turning a unit of length into decimals using just a pair of dividers. . No, they brought in CSEs for those that were unable to hack ‘O’ levels. GCSEs were adopted when ‘O’ level GCEs and CSEs were combined. The advent of comprehensives - where those that didn’t want to be at school dragged down those that had had a good learning ethos.GCSEs they weren't around when I was at school, besides anything else, didn't they bring GCSEs in just for people who couldn't pass O'levels ......
There is not even exactly 365.25 days. We have to make a further adjustment of a day every 400 years, as well. The utter joy....there's 365.25 days in the average year...giving 52.18 weeks in the average year. Unless we're doing it proper...then we need to know which year is a leap year!
Then there's the days in the month of course!
I'm surprised someone hasn't decided this all needs some updating.
The Earth’s orbit is not quite circular, either.Problem is the elliptical orbit of the moon.."just" fix that and we are all good
