Metric is base 10 just like money….imperial is as you said fractions and not intuitive. And I can do fractions….I guesstimate in feet and inches, but measure in metric. Though in machining thou works too
Yeah right. Explain why there are 20cwt/ton, 8 stones /cwt, 14 lb/stone and 16 oz/pound. I can do fractions but metric is no problem. Fractions are easy in simple maths (the questions at GCSE most often cancel to leave an easy final calculation) but you do need top heavy fractions for that. Those who rely on calculators prefer decimal to base ten - fractional conversion calculators have likely mostly disappeared these days.
It all went wrong when we switched to metric weights, measures and currency...suddenly the whole world was on to us diddling them ...it was all down hill for us after that
Currency? Who would go back to Lsd? I could, but wouldn’t want to. Time is yet another problem area. Just about OK for hours, minutes and seconds but the rest is a bit dodgy! 7 days in a week, 52 weeks in a year, almost 365 1/4 days in a year. Even the 12 months in a year are a bit variable! When I was at school in the 70's we had O levels in grammar schools and CSE's in secondary schools, in fact our year trialed one of the upcoming GCSE exams so I ended up getting English language in both O level and GCSE
The utter joy....there's 365.25 days in the average year...giving 52.18 weeks in the average year. Unless we're doing it proper...then we need to know which year is a leap year!

The O level was a GCE (general certificate of education) which along with the CSE was replaced with the GCSE
Problem is the elliptical orbit of the moon.."just" fix that and we are all good
