wonder when snap on moved the direction lever from underneath to on top? Never seen one like that before

Hmmm, had a search on the net but couldn't find one with the exact configuration like my Dad's ratchet. Never known it to have been taken apart, but now wonder if its possible to invert the drive head over in its housing ? Will check this out tomorrow.

I have a soft spot for tools, more ratchets and sockets than I’ll ever need but having been in situations where I stop work because I don’t have the right tool, I’d rather have the tools to do everything! Plus, multiple ratchets saves time switching sockets when you’re doing a big rebuild

The ones with "levers underneath" are Wera 1/4 bit drivers - they are not Snap On - the levers are on the upper side (I have one thing of beauty)

That’s cleared that up. I’ve a couple of snap on ones, amongst a host of others, and they are the nicest I have. They are just “right”

This is the metric drawer. I have a set of U and S shaped ones too but they’re in foam and don’t fit in this drawer. Still working on a design for a bracket to hold these all neatly.

you’re right it is a bit sad, but I’m rarely without the tool I need and it’s a lot more useful than collecting stamps or Faberge eggs! Keeps me entertained but also keeps people asking to borrow things, or more often bringing a project over for me to help with!

When I was working my way through college, there was a sign on the shop's tool room door.

The Facom Rotator is my go to 1/4" drive mostly, I have two, work and home. I bought the 3/8" drive but it's nearly the size of a 1/2" drive ratchet. Useful in confined swing areas for fixings in as you rotate the handle either way and the clever mechanism rotates the head one direction. Kind of a 90° drive but you can only go hand tight. The eject button is nicely recessed too.

Pretty good really, can be very handy, although it is quite large for a 3/8.

As with all things Koken, fit and finish is impeccable, quality unquestionable.
The black selector ring is actually made of metal, 45 tooth, super slick, but not quite as low bakdrag as their pear shaped ratchets.

They do a few handle types but the knurled one is the best IMO as it helps when you are using it like a screwdriver/nut runner.

I like it, probably one of the best roto's out there, but I admit I'm not really a big roto fan. I still tend to gravitate towards a standard pear shaped fix head ratchet for most things.
Koken now have started fitting 72 tooth mechanisms to the Zeal lineup apparently with no impact on backdrag, so I may pick some of those up when/if the release them on their other models.

I had a few 3/8th ratshets like that. I think it's just down to putting the lever in that way?
They were put back the right way for some reason.

The koken ratchett seems odd, the wibbley flipper has to be flipped the opposite way.

Took it apart and the square drive "can" be installed either way, so I put it back together in the standard configuration.

Do you have Screwdriver sockets ?

I have a set of snap on 1/4 drive screwdriver sockets and these 1/2” drive ones for drag links and the old Landcover oil level plugs.

I’ve got a set of Proto Challenger AF combination spanner’s 3/8 - 1” had them not far off 50 years, I also had a swivel head ratchet, but that died. As you say really good good quality. I contacted the Proto importer for a kit for the ratchet, but their repair kit no longer fitted.

Another nice ratchet screwdriver is the big Facom AMM mammouth with interchangeable bits, its the only thing that will get those gurt philips screws out landrover door hinges without chewing them up. Not sure they are still made but they do come up on the bay of thieves.

And the other bits for screws worth a mention are the snapon ones that come in the impact screwdriver set, they seem indestructible.
