Fillet weld needs more heat and always as I'm sure you know arc control is key! If you have arc force setting turn that up !!Whenever I practise flat welds, I'm pretty happy with the results. Then I try a fillet weld, and the results are rubbish. My fillet 'welds' look like blobs of gunk, squeezed out of a tube. So, I go back to practising flat welds and they're fine.
I've watched various videos, including the ones on this site. I gather rod angle and drag angle are crucial to fillet welds, so I've been trying to get those right. But the results are the same.
One thing I've noticed is that the slag chips easily off my flat welds, but I can hardly get it off at all from my fillet welds.
With practice, I've got better and better at flat welds. But my practice with fillet welds isn't making any difference.
Any suggestions what I should try?
I'm using a crackerbox AC welder with 2.5mm Super6 6013 rods. I've tried with various thicknesses of steels - most recently 5mm. I'm welding at about 80 amps. My electricity supply isn't great and I've found I can't go much above that. But anyway, from watching the videos here, 80 amps seems about right.
