Fixing a square taper

Solution to problematic square taper crank set:

1. remove sq.taper bottom bracket
2. throw the BB and the crank set in the bin
3. buy a hollowtech type crank set and BB - Pinkbike is good for 2nd hand parts
4. fit them
5. ride off into the sunset and never bother with square taper ever again

the magnet has stayed put despite average cadence of over 110.

How do you manage that? I struggle to keep 70-90. My last long ride was average 65.

Best description I have heard is:

IME. Once square tapers are loose, there’s no rescuing them.

It is "easy" to maintain high cadence on this:

I tried rollers back in Lockdown 1 and crashed so badly I was put off. Didn't really want a visit to A & E back then! Luckily, I have the front wheel holder. Remember, you could not buy a turbo trainer for love nor money. I was really needing to lose weight so went with what I had. That is a 52 tooth chainring on a fixed gear.

I have used it on the roads but, believe me, I cannot average 110 then! It worked as far as fitness goes. That string was my motivation. It was the length around me when I started.

I need 100mm less string now!
