Biggest challenge is making it adjustable enough to accommodate my 6 year old and then myself.

Make it for you and fit a booster seat for him.

Unless the units are in cm which might be a bit tight but perhaps alright for a single seater.

We only work in metres around here, not got a 150 x 50 spare, got a 60 x 60 going up at the moment.

You may be joking but there's actually a drinks holder already built into the base for my next idea, maybe should get this one up and running first though.

if you make the foot pedals slide backwards and forwards within a guide frame you can lock them into place for both of you or as they get bigger it can be adjusted to fit there size

the steering wheel set up can be slide backwards and forwards just by using drawer sliders a shelf and a pin lock device

the screen being the only piece thats on the frame or on a movable mount

for making the car unit
i had to build the slide unit base i had to use wood as the guide so i made lips on top and bottom of the wood so a frame could be slide in it
as it was just for foot weight 9mm board was ample enough and the foot unit slide above that, but wore away on each side as it needed slide plates either side

the fill up part was folded cardboard that consertenaed just like the ones on teh milling machines or accordian simple to make yet did the job of hiding stuff

nowadays we can use a hand clamp under the seat to clamp the slide bar to hold the pedals into place and quick release to adjust them i had to use wood wedges pushed in from the top infront of the seat to lock the pedals into place simple yet effective to lock the pedals into place

the screens was too heavy so best place was above the knees for the screen nowadays with the mounted screen mounts we can move that weight more to the feet and using an adjustable screen mount we can pull the screen towards us

even a simple 3-4" pole in middle of the unit is ample enough to use if you use u clamps to fasten to the adjustable mounts plate

this means you can slide your steering wheel away from you or pull it towards you using the metal drawer sliders

The pedal box will slide along the main frame rails and clamp in position wherever you want it to, steering wheel is 2 bits of box section that slide over each other for telescoping and pivots at each end to adjust the angle of the wheel.
