Had to make a fairly major redesign today, with the steering column mounted where it suits myself then couldn't get enough adjustment for bem without having a pretty long telescopic section, the issue with this was when it was pushed in for me to use it fouled the pedals. After a sit down and some coffee ive now mounted the steering column to the same plate as the pedals, its actually been a good thing for a few reasons, it's easier to get into the seat now as the column isn't in the way, the telescoping section is almost redundant as moving the pedals to suit us also puts the wheel pretty close to right place as well, I'm leaving the section though as its all made so may as well, the final benefit is its stiffened the pedal rails and they clamp a lot tighter.

can i stop you there and make you back track a little the most important part is your screen so you need to build the frame that holds it
only after the screen support is built do you build your steering slider
with the support frame built at the pedals area you can use one of these or use a plate to bolt too its your choice
as the stand is held onto the round upright bar and fastened with u bolts
everything below that you can build it to suit but the main part is that screen stand where yours is the steering wheel slider when it should be the lcd support
otherwise your going to on top of each other as it stands now
have a look at the gaming sim chairs on google note how close they are to the screen depending on your size of screen its better being further back it can be adjustable
steering control can be on 2 sliders instead of your single slider which is fastened to your lcd stand
these are fixed but note how far back those screens are

I have triple screens with my setup and one is approx 3m away. That one is a 42” tv and the side two are mounted closer so all appear the same size when seated

The screen isn't getting mounted onto the chair, it sits on the desk as its his TV as well. We're using it at the moment with the wheel clamped onto an old drawer frame and happy with how far away it is.
I bought my lad a racing chair rig for his birthday, was £200ish iirc on sale (last one).
He uses a Logitech G920 wheel/ pedals/ shifter.
Had 5 years use out of it so far.
The Logitech needed some major work last year mind, too much plastic, a company makes a CNC aluminium gearbox housing for them so may invest in that.
Notice the new generation Logitech are Direct Drive..

I've only got my time in the setup so far, almost all the steel was offcuts from other jobs. It's a g29 wheel we have which I think is the same as yours but for playstation and yours xbox
