Garage Floor Paint

WeeeeHeeeeee - that's my stuff too.

My garage has a ribbed concrete floor finish for some reason, so the tops get worn off quickly but the rest lasts well. Cheapie stuff on that is not a problem for slipping, and is easy to overpaint. For a flat surface maybe something different might be more appropriate, but the floor needs a repaint every couple of years to sort out dirt and paint anyway. Nobody has mentioned that it will depend on the exact floor that's being painted, so I'll crack in and be the first on that.

We painted ours a few years ago now and to be honest it didn't last too well. Admittedly it gets a fair bit of abuse but car oil seems to do for it. We didn't etch first though. I'd like to epoxy it but I've always thought it'll be a faff! I keep getting sent a catalogue by some people I think are called polycote who have all flooring related stuff but I can't remember exactly. Sorry to be so helpful.

you can use a primer first. But you can have epoxy too rather than paint.

I worked in a local garage and we painted the floor with normal gloss i think. Lasted a week before it started peeling off

i was going to paint mine, but it was very expensive and most of the paints advise using a concrete sealer too

so.. i was in b&q and saw some sealer reduced from £41 to £18 because it had a dented can

as i just want the floor to be dust free i might just make do with the sealer

you have to let your floor harden for a month before you use either

I'm gonna use carpet, have done in front of the work bench, keeps my feet from getting too cold. just stamp on the sparks

Had carpet in mine when we moved in. After a few months it got a bit oily, and then the sparks don't go out when you stamp on them It got ripped out pdq. If you suffer from cold feet, make up some duck boards or get a couple of rubber car mats to stand on. You will be surprised at the difference they make.

Did one with some polyurethane paint from a shop on the bay, £35 for 20 litres delivered. One garage got two good coats and there's enough left to do the other one. It took days to dry though, goes touch dry in a few hours but needs days to go hard. It's more matt than shiney slippy, so does stain up, but can't fault it for the £s. I didn't seal the concrete although it was advised on the can.

l sealed my floor with watered down PVA glue,left it a couple of weeks then painted the floor with dulux gray floor paint.

I haven't found paint that will stand up to hot car tires parking on it. Epoxy or otherwise. Something in the rubber that attacks the paint. Being a home owner, I haven't had the $100 / Sq. Ft. to spend that the big businesses and airlines have to spend. I would expect that treatment works better.

I have a "working" garage. That means lots of physical abuse. What I like best is to use floor grade urethane. Sure it chips and gets dirty, but at $25 US per gallon, I can renew it every year. I like pure white. Its like adding twice the lighting, and you can find what you drop. That's my 2 cents.

Seal the floor 1st with a sealant and then apply two coats of paint.

But the cost a ****** fortune.. my garage is 6x10m and the estimated tile cost was 1350£

Another option perhaps? I noticed Costco stock a plastic type material for garage floors, I can't say what the dimension are, lets say 1 metre square, this stuff locks together and, top side has a pattern similar to chequer (checker?) plate, no idea on cost either, but perhaps long term a better buy?

Obviously not everyone has a Costco on their doorstep, do a google search, maybe luck out.

I got some end of line industrial tiles from a local commercial flooring place, looks good and very easy to clean. not managed to break any yet.

with adhesive, cost about £75.

I heard of a guy who was out working on site, and half inched a huge pot of the stuff.
He did his floor with it and days later it had not set.
Te he he, it was a two pack paint.

I'm ready to paint my floor,it has been acid etched,am i still better to pva before painting?or just put th paint down after the etch ?,Many thanks Gav

Do what the paint manufacturer suggest.
Which I very much doubt will mention PVA.
