I have got some 15kg spools of lincoln 71e-h all position going chep if you want to try one. I think it's all 1.2mm though
Some times you can get a roll and get good results from it. Other times it's crap. Lincoln make flux core that can be used in all positions but its very expensive.I was welding some 2mm sheet into an oil drum and ran out of argon.
I'm putting an emersion heater into the drum to see if I can reduce the time it takes to de-rust using citric acid.
It being Friday evening and BOC don't do weekends, I can't get any until Monday, so I thought I'd have another go with gasless.
I bought a 5kg roll of 71T-GS in 0.8m from one of the local welding supply shops a while ago for just such an occasion.
It’s no name Chinese, but came well wrapped up in vacuum shrunk foil and was £50+ which I thought was rich enough.
No idea of an actual make just what’s on the label

Did a bit of a search and got parameters for 71T-GS
Changed the polarity on my welder and put in a knurled roller and tried it out.
My welder only goes down to 15.5V so it's maybe not ideal for really thin stuff but gave it a go anyway.
Tried15.5v and 3.5m/min wire speed and it worked OK.

It blew through the oil drum in a few places but I was able to fill the holes by concentrating the heat on the weld.

There is lots of splatter but it cleans up well enough.

I will see if it holds water tomorrow.
While I was at it I tried a butt weld on the 1mm thick oil drum steel.
I turned the wire speed down to 2.5m/min
It is very easy to burn through while tacking up, however if you get a few tacks made it's easy enough to make a joint.

I tried on the flat (not great) V down was better (but still not great) and V up which seemed to work best.
It doesn’t like you going over the welds to fill holes but cleans up quite well.
The spec only recommend single runs, so fair enough

For 2mm up I think its fine / good, for fillets / vertical up it's brilliant.
1mm and less is harder work but with a bit of practice I'd say it would get you out of a hole.
If it's your only option it far better than no welder.
Spec says it will work down to 14v so with a different welder it might work better on body work.
I have some of the small rolls from Lidl (0.8 and 0.9) so might give them a go to see how they run.

Gasless wires E71T-GS & E71T-11 are very popular in USA & Australia for years, in other regions of the world, the gasless wires are also getting more and more popular, for it is very convenient for DIY and outdoor jobs.
We are good at this product, glad to answer different questions for you people.
Current density of cored wire is much higher than that of solid wire, so the transfer acts differently. When ran in normal parameters it works in spray transfer which is much too hot and penetrating than solid wire at the same amps. The slag doesn't let you stitch-tack like you can with solid wire either, at least not as cleanly and consistently.The main question I have is why is E71T-GS so difficult to use compared to solid wire for welding 0.8mm butt joints in steel? Especially overhead.
