@Welderpaul There is about 7” under the lid which is enough for an inch drive deep impact on its end.

Would have been 3 or 4 years ago I was last in one I think. Unless the guy was being a knob, of course. He did try to tell me that they were snap on with a different logo stamped on them so who knows....

The problem is margins are probably becoming tighter & they want to keep the product at a competitive price point. But what these companies don't realise is that some folk would happily pay the extra for the quality/benefitsI'd be suprised if it wasn't.
Quality doesn't seem to come high up on agendas.

I bought that when I first started work properly, Had tool club then, so paid weekly..I remember it well, told the guy on the tool van what I want. Then had to go and ask Mike if it was okay

I dont believe this is true. For example the ratchet spanners are definitely different. the Ratchet heads are larger, which is usually a sign of a lower spec.

That's why Bott et al exist, Halfords are hobby rated in comparison. That said I've got the old black Industrial boxen being talked about and for me they're fine.
The local garages have Teng tools, probably because that's what the travelling chap sells.

Got some of the new advanced cabinets recently seem not bad though they are just going in a van, the industrial ones are now just labeled halfords I believe and are just a plain colour instead of a textured finish. The advanced have gone to a soft close drawer now instead of the industrial latch.

These are the ones that seem to have replaced the industrial line. They seem to have done away with the drawer latches though.

Kingchrome is sidchromes budget line not much better than halfords but not too bad.
