They’ll withstand rolling and flattening if the radius is half decent. Most places make it with 6m of plate (2x3m length) rolled, cladded then flattened.
The point I’m making is they don’t like an impact. I’ve been involved in the past with certain wear plates under different conditions and they are extremely good for abrasion but quite poor on high impact. I remember many years ago gouging off a load of CrC plate that was fitted to a huge bucket for mining in Norway as it was falling apart in seconds. It was all replaced with hard ox

The hardfacing Im talking about are the 25-30 Cr and about 5 Carbon.....Chromium Carbide.....you cant heat treat it.......its just hard and tough.....the welds usually crack on the surface (check cracking) which is good as the alternative is to crack under the deposit and then spall off.....a layer of this stuff is as good as it gets. It what they use to make wearplate.

I've used a few chrome carbide plates for chutes in quarrying.
The chrome carbide was welded onto a 4mm mild steel plate about 2' square. there were countersunk inserts welded in to fix the plates.
As you say, the surface had loads of cracks in it. It would out last Hardox4-500.

We used to clad lower edges of auger flights with c/c chunks. They gave up with that in the end as theyd break up if it got a hammering through really rocky ground.
Went back to building up with a stainless guttering layer and hardcore 650.

The 650 seemed a good compromise between wear properties and durability.

Sssh! Anyone coming up to the gate and she’s all teeth and growls but once invited in it’s play with me. Easily bought off with food too.

Great example is when she first met my youngest brother and she wouldn’t let him through the gate, even when I let him in she was still snarls and growls at him. Second time she met him she walked straight up to him, he froze, then she stood on her hind legs put her paws on his shoulders and kissed him on the lips.
