Heating oil increase this morning

I have acres (almost) of south facing shed roof. And in the shed there would be room for batteries. There is a 3p distrbution board in there that is fed from the meter with 35mm2 4 core (i think). It appears to lend itself to this but I just dont have the money to outlay on it currently

looked at shed roof too, will take 4 rows of 15 panels no problem, but to get grid connection, is not easy, would mean a new connections in the pole in my field ( no way leave and DNO still weren't helpful). So its a bit cost prohibitive. Or 1 row of 15 and plumb it into the house with batteries.

will need to investigate these higher buy back rates!

Glad I didn't opt to pay the extra for 3 day delivery rather than 5 ...

I guess they are not that busy at the moment.

Our electric is far too high but I cant figure the reason. We do have 3phase but I dont think that means we pay more.

Yes, at least for the standing charge (DNUOS) - three wires, see.

That’s a statement that needs clarifying. Surely capacity of either is limited by budget ultimately, however Li-ion will be more power dense.

I can buy a new 48v 960 amp/h forklift battery for £3000. That is 48kw/h. Obviously lead acid won't give you all that so say 35kw/h usable. Then you need a smart charger/sine wave psu. Say £1000.
Just have a look how much a 35kw/h lithium ion would cost!
Power density doesn't really matter for ground based applications.

This.... if it was me. Well established, reliable tech, no "smart" electronics, very safe, you can top them up & measure SG etc, and a much better price.
And a rating based on a 5-hour discharge, where most batteries are based on a 20-hr discharge (so the latter gives an inflated AH rating as a smaller discharge load is employed).... so the power density differential isn't as much as the numbers suggest either.

Planning an almost off grid ground array at my Dad's old villa in Portugal. Makes far more sense with their weather.

But how’s that more capacity? More capacity than what? Your statement still makes zero sense.

As you have replied to a separate point tho, my LiFePO‘s cost less than your forklift battery, although the Victron inverter was also around a grand.

(Guilty myself) ... along with the constant need to jump on anything fizzy says and say the opposite (not guilty myself) otherwise this thread will turn into a barney about who has the most evidence for their opinion and drift away from heating oil prices.

I do most of my own research, but luckily have a brother who is an electrical engineery geeky type. As for installers, there are many many clueless folk trying to sell such stuff. Im quite happy to pay a man, but not found the right man yet, thought I had till I quized him, turns out hes a front man. Everything else apart from selling it is subbed out! Its a bit of a mine field!

For my holiday cottages it all needs to fit in a cupboard, be tidy too, so big lead acid batteries wont really cut it.

If the inverter had to go inside the house, then the battery pack went into an insulated "bunker" on the outside wall (outside), or in an adjacent outbuilding (segregated from anything else with its own outside access door & ventilation for safety reasons).
No way would there be any battery storage inside the living area (in fact I consulted HSE & the response I got at the time was that they'd not sanction any battery pack in the house).

Im familiar with off grid generator systems, two of our neighbours have them. Both in out buildings.

Cheapest time. Most people book summer holidays mid winter....but I get your message

Filled up with last 1,500ltrs so 2,500ltrs totally. with vat @ 5% about 60p/ltr. So good for ~18 moths now.
