Shouldn't you let it dry firstWe have still got just over half a1200 litre tank of fuel left after topping it full in September 2022 it might last till may 2024 now we have the tripple glazing , no letter box, the very latest roof void insulation & a new roof ( June 2023) with a breathable membrane under the tiles . I also used horizontal soil pipes in the wet room to take the extractor fans exhausts ( On timer delays ) & cooker hob hood out the gable ends so they are no longer vented vertically .
The annoying wet patch mould problems we were having appear to have cleared up , I hope to finally redecorate the wet room this week ,
You did well, incl VAT!Got our last 500ltrs today so the tanks full which will see us into spring @ 75ppl inc vat
Nobody on here been buying since November? In the spirit of sharing (my pain) I've just paid 67.24 inc. VAT per litre for a 1500 litre delivery.
I topped up before Christmas at 68ppl and around me now its about 64ppl (all plus VAT) as it has been so mild!Nobody on here been buying since November? In the spirit of sharing (my pain) I've just paid 67.24 inc. VAT per litre for a 1500 litre delivery.
28 second KeroKero or gas oil ?
Bob
Yes, I just looked at my last top up, that was 65.7 per litre inc VAT; I obviously haven't got my head round how things are these days.I topped up before Christmas at 68ppl and around me now its about 64ppl (all plus VAT) as it has been so mild!
To be honest, your price isnt too bad in the current world climate (Russia/Ukraine etc) and time of year. I paid 58ppl in Sept but wish it was more like 38 as in previous years!

The weather must have been exceptionally mild as my last 1500 litre top up was in April '23. Living in a Victorian detached place, despite my best efforts, I am heating North Kent along with the house. The workshop has its own Oil fired boiler, and the kitchen has an oil fired range cooker. Average consumption here has been north of 3000 litres per year in the past.
I'm unconvinced by condensing boilers & neither is my curmudgeonly boiler service guy that I've known for decades. How old are you oil boilers? Are they condensing type? If not very worthwhile to upgrade them!

Yes they are more efficient on paper than my 24yo Worcester Danesmore (not Combi, I have loft header tank & HW Cylinder) - but they are also the same as every other modern appliance - built-in faults, complexity, breakdowns & mtce, & obsolescence.
I only have a small semi-detached house so I appreciate it makes less difference to me than someone with a big old place - but my boiler has been amazingly reliable over 24-years - & no way while it lives would I swap it out for a condensing unit. As it is, despite the OH working from home 4-days-a-week, & the boiler doing all HW & Heating - I use only about 1000L annually.
There's no way a new boiler is going to outperform my Worcester & pay back its cost in fuel saving.
Given how old mine is, then it's got to be on borrowed time whether I like it or not. Service guy says the baffles rot out (but mine are still good) & yes the water jacket might go - but fingers crossed it'll keep plugging away! That was my same thought before. And my boiler guy too. That I should keep my Worchester Bosch boiler going as it is the rolls Royce of boilers he said.
Then the water jacket went in it.
I fitted a replacement Firebird condensing boiler. My oil consumption went from 1900L per winter to under 900 now. Indeed last winter I only used about 700L of oil which is a crazy saving when you think about it.
Just saying - give it some thought they do save alot of oil. I bought mine as one year old but used from someone changing to gas. So it paid for itself in the first winter's oil savings.
Mine ran without a blip for about 19 or 20 years (most of that I'm ashamed to say without even a service - it just.... worked perfectly). My old boiler is likewise praised by our service guy.
Again we use about 1000l a year, and every service it's burning well according to the man.
He tells me how expensive it will be to get and fit spares should they be needed, but even then it's an awful lot less than a new boiler.
Just to be devil's advocate, I wonder do all boiler repair guys advise on keeping old boilers as it keeps them busy?My old boiler is likewise praised by our service guy.

My service guy genuinely detests the new ones. He's just hit retirement age & cherry-picks what he does now (he's an Indie SE guy).Just to be devil's advocate, I wonder do all boiler repair guys advise on keeping old boilers as it keeps them busy?
It seems like a common theme that's all.
