The burners look very similar to the 20 yr old kit?Yes Reillo are very popular on many oil boilers.
My Firebird is one of the latest ones and they come with an Elco Lo nox burner.
Look at the readings I took from my own boiler,

(Readout on right was after my last adjustment to get it as efficient as possible) 0 ppm emmisons!
Very nice bit of kit. Simple and easy to maintain IMO. It even comes with a jet setting tool attached Inside the casing for anyone servicing it! It hasnt missed a beat for 2 years now. Quiet and efficient. Lots of readily available servicing information available online including you toob videos by Elco. One example:
We paid 73p a litre for 970 litres in mid December 2022No...not till june onwards, but price of diesel at pumps is coming down, so all should follow?
It was on the installation papers and the owners manual as Made in China , when the first was fitted some 18 yrs ago , I'm sure the second one was also out the same stable .All your problems noted are installation problems! Also, Firebird boilers are made in Co Cork, Ireland & the burners are made in Italy so not sure where the China thing is you are quoting.....
I think some people and installers who are old school don't want to look at condensing boiler's. But this is short sighted IMO and they are reliable units there is no mythical "short lifetime" risk with them if, like anything else it is installed and maintained correctly.
Anyway, I've offered some of my insight and based on my own personal experience if you want to hang onto older boilers or go with a different brand that is of course your own decision
When we lived out in the sticks we too had LPG for rads and hot water ... horrific for heating our 1864 ex railway gate keepers cottage . IIRC the LPG was 13 p a litre in 1993 and we had to fill it three times or more a year in a 500 litre tank .I sit watching tv with two pairs of tracky bottoms on and a thermal vest under a sweater, and a wooly hat. It grieves me to heat my whole place just to keep myself warm.
Theres only me and my dog here, so I set the heating to 17° and just turn it on in the evening when I feel cold.
Currently midday, 12.9° in my bungalow, with windows open, fresh air circulating, to get the stinky dog smell out.
I use bulk LPG for heating, a tank lasts about 12 months, last refill was March, £500 or so.
No, Both boilers are traditional iron heat exchanger boilers with Reillo burners. Before I installed them (around the millenium IIRC) I checked out the prices of condensing boilers and came to the conclusion that they would need to last about 30 years to get an ROI. Condensing oil boilers were not mainstream items then, so probably came with a hefty price premium. How old are you oil boilers? Are they condensing type? If not very worthwhile to upgrade them!
Chatting to a lad down the cafe on Sunday, he has a small diesel heater in his workshop, but he has plumbed the exhaust through an old cast iron radiator before it leaves the building. Apparently gets warm as toast.Eight radiators in the workshop!
I have two but they are both attached to motorcycles
After seeing the oil tanker attack and all the other ones in the gulf, I'm amazed oil prices haven't rocketed. especially at this time of year. ~66p
Has oil been discovered in Westminster?
Firebird by any chance?half an hour bleeding the pump while dodging the leaks from the heat exchanger
I told him a year ago to get it replaced...
I dont know if houses in Finland are better insulated from the start? most of the old UK stuff will be brick built non-cavity walls, terrace/semi-detached styleWeird they can get buildings from the 1700s to work with heat pumps in Finland
No doubt your also listed? You shuld then be one of 20% exempt?Jesus now we're subsidising fecking unsustainable new wave heat sources!
This house is a 16th century thatched cottage with virtually no insulation or anyway of installing it. GSHP or ASHP won't work here no matter what the believers think.
He's been paying £400 A MONTH on oil!
I read somewhere that about 4 supertankers pull into east coast ports in the US every day. After seeing the oil tanker attack and all the other ones in the gulf, I'm amazed oil prices haven't rocketed. especially at this time of year. ~66p
