Help int 40 won't fit

Sadly not any more. I could have got the same chuck half the price from some Chinese suppliers.
Some suppliers put on small markups. Others far more.
Axminster are a classic example. They sell identical Chinese lathes and milling machines for as much as double other suppliers.
I don't mind paying extra for quality but I do object to high markups wirh no benefits.
At least RDG are very reputable and I am expecting no hassle to exchange.

I was talking about when buying from the original supplier, not whatever the importer decides to charge.

BTW, you probably want to be searching for DIN2080, as that's what your original tool shank is, and it's far more common now.
ISO/INT have subtle differences (the top parallel section being the most visible), but should be interchangeable.

I know two UK companies who buy from them under their own brands, and they produce far more than what's listed on their website.
I'd also guess there are lots of other companies around the world buying from them.

I've got 20 custom toolholders from them that came from them via a UK dealer.
They don't deal direct, as I emailed them direct, and they forwarded my email to the UK dealer, who arranged everything.

However, I highly suspect RDG will not be buying from them.
RDG is well down my list of preferred suppliers, as I've found their quality rather questionable.

In fairness the quality looks very good. Certainly very well hardened.
If only the slots were a tad bigger and the thread a lot longer .

If you're not in any rush, Cutwel often do 50% of spindle toolholding, which usually includes all the standard ER holders.

I usually use ARC as well. Owner a very nice chap. Was just easier on Ebay to buy off RDG.

I did consider but thought it was a bit too cheap. Aliexpress type prices.
A classic example of you DONT always get what you pay for.
They sell an int40 integrated drill chuck for about £35. I bet its the same one Chronos etc are selling for £95.

Their postage costs are a bit steep at £14 - fine if you re buying quite a bit of stuff.

Not exactly the same but I bought a rotary table backplate with a stumpy morse taper 2 from RDG a while ago.

Unfortunately, the morse taper 2 was slightly undersized and there was some play when it went into a morse taper 2 hole.

I contacted RDG, returned the item and they refunded me.

I saw it listed back on ebay with the defect described a few days later.

Can't complain about their customer service.

Those are the ones watchmakers use.

Real machinists use ER60 on a Sherline.

Cutwell seem to be very expensive - or so I thought. Their collet chucks however seem very good value

Ordered one off Cutwell - they only have the 100mm length ones in stock not the 70mm - shouldn't be a problem though?
RDG were rather concerned as they have sold a load of these without problems. They measured another 2 - both the same undersize. I asked them to measure another type of int40 tool and the dog slots were 16.4mm as they should be. No point in exchange so giving me a full refund. No chane of using the mill for another weekend now though

Good to hear that RDG checked their other stock.

I am sure you have one or maybe even two other machines you could use this weekend to scratch the itch

Make a deal with them that you will enlarge the slots in the faulty ones on piecework. Do the first one with a grinder and use it to fettle the rest of them. Price it such that you can throw the first one away when you are done.

If you really wanted to use the mill at the weekend, you'd take out the drive keys from the spindle.

or make a couple of keys - or even one? The drawbar thread's more of a problem, but a spacer under the nut on the end, done that with mine with a couple of nuts locked together...

The drive slots /dogs I could easily sort with my surface grinder and a narrow wheel. The drawbar more of a problem. I tried using a hss tap but the tool was just too hard. The draw has an align air system. Looks like a faff to dismantle it.
