help on compressors

The "valves" on the side with the adjustable regulator, --there is a pressure safety valve, what appears to be a gate valve -missing its wheel, then the adjustable outlet regulator, feeding three quick release fittings. What were you thinking of removing??

I used a Sealey 3hp 50l unit for ages without any problem on my 1/2" rattle gun. I upgraded to a Hydrovane recently but still have the sealey for portable jobs and it has no problem taking the nuts of my Defender wheels.

a bigger motor makes no odds and as i said in post 2 u cant gear it up as it will damage the pump

nupe. u could add another tank and that would give u more air capacity but would take twice as long to fill after u had uses up whats in the tanks

if you try using that compressor for spraying a full car, sanding, grinding etc your going to run out of air quickly, it is a small compressor, add to that the age and likely wear on the cylinders which will further reduce compression.

its not being used in a garage or anything just the odd nut wheel off it will do for now i suppose i may build one see if i can get my hands on a good big pump.

would 18cfm pump 4hp single phase motor be ok with 100-150 litre tank? and would i have to wire it up like my ingersoll one with that big box or will a plug be ok?

Brilliant pump, brilliant Motor, but on 240 volts -- I think you will have major problems.
Yes whatever receiver it pressures will need a pressure cut off electrical switch and a safety valve . Any motor including this one, idealy needs the correct NVR and an isolator. This motor will not work on a 13 amp 3 pin plug.Depending on the efficiency of the motor, it could easily be pulling 16+ amps just running, --I think, and a recomendation would be a minimum of a 40 amp supply,-- can your DB board supply this??

Serious mate, just buy yourself a compressor fit for the job but he time you have messed around bodging you will be able to pick up an off the shelf unit that will so what you want perfectly for little money.

think you may be right but i havent got cash so was going to use the one i have buy bits at a time slowly put it together,may aswel just save haha...whats biggest most powerful i can have on 13amps as i cant get any more without my landlord wont let me...maybe a engine would be better?

It's the starting current that's the problem, you can get a 3hp designed to run off 13amps but a lot need minimum 16 amps, my clarke industrial recommends a 30 amp supply. Maybe a 2.5hp would be safer, or 2x1.5hp run in tandem.

just want something to run a gun and ratchet at its best level what compressor would be best maybe that way i could work it out,never seen 2 motors run in tandem before.if i cant get the big comp with 13 amp supply it has to be engine my mrs dad is in lawnmower trade so can prob get a honda gx160 engine for nowt.just need a reciever and pump,only lol

most people use a 3hp on standard plug

using an engine you will need a device to stop the tank being overfilled or it will go bang, look for 14/15 cfm 3hp and you wont go far wrong just don't buy a dud

You can get a compressor from eBay for £90 that will do just what you need.....

Not even close. I would not even use that thing you have as a doorstop!!!

Modern unit with a new pump and more powerful motor is going to knock spots of that 40 year old thing you are showing on the pics. As I said earlier I used one of those little 50l 2.5hp jobs in my garage for years doing what you are asking. I upgraded to the vane as I needed the capacity for my blasting cabinet and small spray gun as well as the usual array of tools.

That old thing you have will struggle to keep up with anything.

At least with a 2.5hp you will be able to run it on a 13amp plug and you can move it around the workshop as needed allowing you to run short big bore hoses.
