I had a play after changing the torch back and the hf seemed improved for a while then maybe not. I will.have another go tomorrow with it and report back.

It won’t fix it self mate. It’s not right
A machine at that level should be able to jump a half inch gap all day long.
Would you like to borrow my cable and potentially rule that out.

you know I said the HF was working fine on the water cooled torch after I swapped back I did re sharpen then tungsten then, and when you said it was ok on the radiator we also touched up the tungsten. I will defiantly get a meter on it later and have a further test of the HF on both torches

Yes known issue on the early dynasty machines. I don’t know that much about them to be honest, just abused a 350 at work a few years ago

The problem appears to be when the tungsten is cold after a few starts it is fine, but once the tungsten has cooled down the hf is harder to start unless the gap is closed up. I need to re check with the old air cooled torch again later I think

What tungstens are you using?
At my place of work we have a Rehm AC/DC machine, which is a right pfaff to start on some types of electrodes, with a Binzel E3 starts are very, very good, with something like a red (hush, hush) starts are so/so and with zirconiated ones I could not get an arc started with any gap at all.

that was using a grey Tungsten I think it is ceriated

Ok so I have swapped the torches and nothing changed.
The HF seems really weak more so when the tungsten is cold and you are striking up for the first time.
The LEDs on the panel also flash a bit when the HF is on which I find strange it is like HF is escaping somewhere and freaking them all out

ha ha thats the plan for later Brad I have just cleared the bench and disconected it got to go and sort the horses out then I shall return and whip them off does the blue cover just pull up and off do you know?

Covers off looks very clean inside nothing jumps out at me not sure if these cables have got hot or if that is normal.

Anything I should be looking for in particular.

What you’re looking for is any cable with missing insulation that could be touching the casing or another cable

I was scared to plug it in and stomp on the pedal with no cover but I should do it with the lights off too
