Just been doing some reading

Pull the cover
On the right side just behind the face plate there are 2 black wires that go into a tube...
Pull the wires and remove the wires/core
cut the tape from the one end
Wrap the wire around the ferrite core 1 time and space the wires evenly.
Retape the end and insert back into the tube.

For the points
using an allen, loosen the 3 screws that holds the points in place.
Use a emory cloth to remove the pitting or heat marks
reinstall and gap at .010 to .016

@bwservices is a man who knows about the guts of these things.
Personally @123hotchef id avoid going any further with it until you’ve spoken to someone qualified. Pressing the button with the covers off will show you if the hf is leaking where it shouldn’t be but it’s also exposing those boards to potential hf damage because they are no longer shielded from the hf coming out your torch. so it’s best to leave things now mate. Call someone who knows or wait to see if BW replies.

I will try the points later nothing to loose, I will also try the HF start in the dark

There are a few revisions of the dynasty, the one i have here doesnt have points. I dont know would i go messing with modifying the wires around the ferrite core,miller usually get things like that right first day

I will check the points later just looks like one set of points. Would a faulty foot pedal cause issues

the noise the high frequency is making in the videos isn't right, theres probably a component on the board faulty,not the points themselves
I wouldn't reckon the footpedal is the issue either

New board time is it. I bet that is not cheap. I just removed the points they were spotless. Cleanned them and set the gap anyway no different though. What is the hf board the one that is hidden a bit.

With the cover off that noise appears to be coming from the points when I arc jumps the gap

who are tecarc? google comes up with lots! so you think the board is at fault? what board is it on the machine?

I wouldnt be definite that its the hf board thats at fault,just a guesstimate due to the sound in the videos above.i would ring technical arc or any other repair company and discuss it with them.it would be best to just send them the whole machine

thanks for the input mate, I am just waiting to hear back from Miller and Foster. I could not see any HF lightning inside the machine with the lights off. The HF does seem to work better when the tungsten is arm too. I get the same problem on both torches with the pedal and with the button on the torch so that has ruled all those out.

I have been on a few american forums and the miller forum too there was a field bulletin issued about adding the extra turn onto the HF ferrite coil.

I am waiting to hear back from foster and miller so watch this space.

I have removed, cleaned and reset the points, they were clean when I removed them anyway. I set them to .3mm
I have also pulled the ferrite coil out this was still in one piece. I also added 1 extra turn of cable to it and re spaced the coils.

None of these have had a effect on the HF.

Hi Lee,

It's an old machine 2005 with points, may need points cleaning and resetting, it could have a broken ferrite core on the inductor or suppressor fallen off, as problem is there with foot switch it would suggest a machine fault.

Hi. Been reading this, the HF gap sizes stated seem a bit small, usually a couple mm's in other machines.

yes mate i tried both my torches minus the pedal they each have there own switch too
