Hi everyone, just a quick update after a few months of reading research and homework i have decided for this one, which i probably will pickup till the end of the week, instead of the stahlwerk ones to begin with since it has mma, tig and gas mig and flux, with 160A, any opinions on the machine / brand ?

60% at what amp from a 13amp plug? But price as good an begginer.

Im guessing the duty cycle is 60% at full power of 160amp, but i can confirm at the shop.....


not sure what you mean by 13amp plug...

Duty cycle normally falls off a lot at full power so more likely 60% at 140A.
Prepman forgets you are in Lisbon, UK domestic sockets are 13A rated max

Here in Europe mainland we have sockets with 220v and 16amps..... (50hertz)

What does the differential say on your Main Board? It is set for a max ampage for the house.

Not sure if i wrote on this topic or another one, but i dont believe i would be able to run this welder at my flat, since my hired power i have is 2.30kva (10Amp).... so i most likely will be using it somewhere else probably outdoors...

Had the confirmation from the stayer representative today

60% duty cycle is applicable for 160amps on mma, on gas mig and on tig,

as for flux core its a continuous non stop operation, so im guessing the flux takes less power drawage...

I don't think you should be concerned with a 60% duty cycle. As a beginner you are not going to approach that and even later when you get your hand in it's unlikely to be an issue.

Far more to it than just the type of rod. What thickness of material are you working with?

For now, as a complete begginer im guessing thicker materials to practise...... i got myself a 5kg fluxcore drum to begin with


Also as a begginner, 've seen there's a couple of sprays, anti-spatter and anti-stick, do these really work ?

On sprays, never used one. I don't find it to be a problem. Also, tried fluxcore and it's only use (for me) would be if welding in a windy situation. But, my MIG is a big heavy transformer machine and if on site, I use an inverter 'stick' machine, only rarely the mig. As in, once in the last year.
