I have a Grainfather Connect (I think they call it the G30 now) and I'm a big fan. I never tried all-grain with any other method as it seemed such a massive palaver, but a Grainfather-owning friend convinced me. It keeps everything simple and really takes the misery out of all-grain brewing. It's very well thought-out and nicely put together IMO.

Did you have any problems?
My local homebrew shop has hobbybrew gas for us homebrewers now.
I'm tempted to use this local gas over calor gas

Ive found there a good set of lads and been local to me helps, its a good time to check them out nearly all kits are on sale with black friday. Good tune to stock up on kit beers and lager imo

Going to make some sloe wine at the weekend with the last of the sloes down here hopefully.

The recipe calls for 1/4 pint of red grape juice concentrate or 1/2 lb of raisins. Raisins I have so no problem there. Out of interest can you make concentrate out of regular grape juice?

I think the term from concentrate is just pure juice from like asda. Some have loads of added water. You welch juice or asda equivalent

Grape juice concentrate is just that, concentrated grape juice, you can get it from any home brew outlet.

Best yeast for sloe wine anyone? From experience rather than searching the net like I have been ideally!

Sloe Vodka:

In the absence of any yeast for wine I picked 900g of sloes. Put 500g of the fruit in with 250g of golden caster sugar and 600ml of ancient Smirnoff, all in one of the kids old sweet jars.

Need to get some more voddie tomorrow and add 400ml. Recipe for says 1L.

The sloe vodka in it's cool, dark place until the end of Jan/Feb. Made up the litre with 400ml of Lidl's cheapest stuff:

With the clubcard a litre of gin was £16 in Tesco. Had to use up the other 500g of sloes:

I've not brewed for a few years but used to use this recipie (or similar), for mead which doesn't need boiling.

Turns out OK too, and even better if you let it mature for more than a fortnight.

Well I made the Joe's Ancient Orange Mead on 19th November. The recipe says:

"After 2 months and maybe a few days it will slow down to a stop and clear all by itself".

To me it looks like it's stopped. No, blip, blip from the airlock. Been at a fairly constant 24degC ish except when it was really cold it'd drop to circa 17degC but then pick up again.

It hasn't cleared yet though.

I'm not 100% sure but I think I used to rack it off the sediment and fruit into a clean demijohn and then just leave it somewhere cool and dark for a couple of months to clear before bottling.

I've asked the Mrs too, but she doesn't seem to remember what we did either, I guess that's what drinking the stuff does to you.

As advised above I would be racking that off at this stage and leaving to mature. Either in another demijohn or grolsh/ pop top style bottles Incase it dose a bit more fermenting. Avoid to much air space in the bottle when storing

I buy my homebrew kits from the homebrew shop online, quick & efficient with good prices. Unlike beers unlimited in southend, the most miserable, unhelpful place i have ever had the misfortune to use!
