This is a good call, most appliances with low voltage control will have a dropper cap, they're usually the weakest point. You would usually notice erratic behaviour before total failure as the cap ages.I had this with my old Hoover condensing drier. it turned out to be a faulty cap on the circuit board PITA to get out but easy fix. Can you post a close up picture of the board?
yea and takes twice as long to dry the clothesTo be honest looking online a new hotpoint which is a ⅓ of the energy consumption is £439 so I think we will buy new

There was an expose' a while ago about Amazon faulty returns being re-despatched?Are they genuine? Might be worth a nicely worded email direct to Cambridge Audio on the lines of:
"Good morning, I recently purchased a pair of (whatever) via Amazon. A big plus were these being Made In England. Sadly the quality and connectivity was appalling, so bad I have to wonder whether I'd bought counterfeit goods?
I just thought I should let you know. I am now looking at Sony pair What Hi-Fi reccomends and will be returning the Cambridge Audio items".
Give them a chance to send you a complimentary pair!
ive a canopy out back of the house that i put up line underneath but its not great as the wind does not blow throught it and takes ages to dry any thingI have always wondered about this? Energy in is just energy in for heating. Just how more effcient could a newer one be? A little but I would think but 33%.
I gone for a "step back in tech" due to energy prices.
I have concreted in a new clothes airer in the lawn - plus a folding one under the carport.
£200 plus project.

Yeah you'd need a meggerWhen our Bosch washing machine kept blowing the fuse it was the main motor...as I recall I wasn't able to test it with a basic multi meter (it checked out ok) so just took a gamble and bought a second hand one on ebay which did the trick.
Can't quite remember what happened or why I couldn't test it...I think maybe the insulation on the windings was breaking down but it would only fault when 240v was connected. Electricals just ain't my strong point...second hand motor did fix it. Dismantled the old motor...never found the fault but I just put it down to me not having the correct test equipment to find the fault (basic multi meter wasn't up to the job)...I even tested each winding and it was fine but that was at the multi meter test voltage which ain't a lot.

That sounds like you got your monies worth. So I paid £110 to have Hotpoint out on a labour only, parts on warranty service call. The chap did no real diagnostics, fitted new heater £66, new control board £147 and front drum thermistor £23. I think the real problem was the drum thermistor.
I wonder if any of the parts removed end up on ebay

We bought a Creda one from Rumbelows, remember them? When my son started secondary school to dry his rugby kit, he’s 46 now, both he & the tumble drier are still going. He’s a bit quieter, the tumble drier is a bit noisier now though!Of little help to you @Brad93 but coincidently I have a tumble dryer (a Creda) in bits at the moment too.

It's been a bit screechy for a few years but the other day it developed another noise so I decided to take a butchers. It turns out the new noise was motor bearings (well, one of them) which I've ordered for the princely sum of about £3.50 each. As long as the motor still works when I fit them, I'll splash out on some new felt seals, a drive belt, drum bearing kit and a heating element (I managed to break the old one by standing on it ) which comes to about £100.
22 years old and UK made. Not bad really.
Engineer has been today and swapped out board. Nothing visibly wrong on board. Tumble dryer now working. £126 for a one off repair, pay by direct debit over six months and anything else that goes wrong is also covered
