Are you letting them spread across the ground or training them up a trellis?

No flowers on my butternut squash yet but I'm hoping to train them up a yet to be constructed frame within the box section frame. I'm assuming they are similar in growth & flowering to the pumpkins.

For the horizontals above the squash I'm just going to put in some M8 studding then timber uprights. Think I need to do it soon!

South Wales west end of th M$ area . Our butternut's seriously flowered two days ago ... good sign if the warm spell continues , locally we have an amateur hopeful beekeeper with a dozen hives so plenty of pollinators around at present to take advantage of the nectar flows as well ...

You have to shuck it first ( take the kernels off the cob ) & blanch it to kill any survivable bugs etc.

That takes the fun out of it.

I do as well. Potted but in water baths I gill daily.
This year has been garbage for the tomatoes i had but primarily as I had no money maker. Just Beef and Roma.

So you have a pot with the tomatoes in and that sits in a shallow "pond"? How deep? You then add 1/4 pint a day to the pond rather than the soil of the pot?

Edit: Just read you actually meant to write fill. Tbh I quite like the idea of a given daily measurement, consistent watering etc.

No I didn't say that, they can be drowned if the roots rot. so some form of drain off is essential , if constantly watered from the top. Even hydroponic grown toms have a period where the nutrient rich water drains down but still leaves a consistent degree of moisture & fresh oxygen for the fine hair roots to take in the nutrients .

The pot standing in a dish of water allowing the roots to take up water is a different thing , some of my better toms are grown in the glasshouse in draining down tubs, fed by time clocked water sprays just above the soil and given half a pint of Tomorite solution every three days once the first truss has set. These tubs are on a fully concreted & slabbed floor , I often see the tomatoes sending out extra roots through the drain holes on the bottom sidewall of the tubs to drink in the drained down excess water still on the floor

As you mention constant levels of nutrient rich moisture and a temp above 52 oF ( above 85 oF stresses the toms and over 90 oF-usually kills them ) are essential for lots of toms . so is a reasonable amount of clean fresh air flow to prevent blight. Some guys I used to know had vari speed 20 inch electric fans moving the air around their big polytunnels

I spend most of my time cutting back a few buddleia bushes, I cut all the flowers off once they'd gone brown and the bees had finished with them and I noticed I've got new flowers on them now.

Some will. It's a tenacious plant. I lost one of three. One looked like it wouldn't survive, but it's fine now.
