Bean seeds in pots on May 2nd. Still no signs of life!

Got some coir rope in Lidl, was 2 for 1. There's 2x15m in each pack. Was going to string my bean frame with it using just a round turn and two half hitches on the tubular frame, top and bottom. Figure if it goes slack I can just re-tension it.

Make a four legged tent style frame with a cross bar then drill cord plus holes in 15 inch long pegs , knot at the peg end to stop it pulling through and tie off rope on the cross bar in a clove hitch , leave a foot or so over to allow slackening when it's wet . I managed to get 20 bean growing stations of three plants per station along a six foot long cross bar .. width of the tent was about four foot , three foot trench 3 foot deep filled with stable muck covered in several months of The Times soaked in water , then covered over with top soil ... so it stood proud of the garden .

A hot bed done like that will see you wondering how to use or preserve your beans . put a few yellow wax & French style climbers at one end and you'll have beans for dilly pickles and drying .

Dried red kidney beans should be boiled for several minutes and the water thrown away to get rid of nasty stomach ache / fatal toxins . Re boil them in clean fresh water .

We have life! Maybe they just needed more water. Poured yesterday and they were left out in it. Brought in last night and this morning, 4 out of 50 showing so far.

One is growing out of the side of the cheap cardboard pot that's split. Might need to re pot I guess.

In the last week we've had our first crops of peas, OK grown in a polytunnel so that may count as cheating. But in NE Scotland you need a bit of help. Sugar snap and mange toute peas still to come, and French beans.

I gave up on "No Mow May" just now, and mowed the lawns. Already have loads of stuff growing in them, but none of them have heads any more.

That "no mow" thing irks me. Leaving certain areas untouched if there's particular plantlife desirable, fine, but a general no-mow usually just ends with an area which looks crap & takes a while to get back in trim.

Better to properly dedicate a worthwhile area permanently, IMHO.

I am learning this, though I still don't have the hang of getting rid of dandelions. And lawn food that says "use when it's not going to rain for three days" - how the heck am I supposed to know that if the weather forecasters don't? My veg patch is throwing up a lot of potato plants, many in areas where I thought I'd "cleared" it.

I forgot to mention that when you mow the lawn the Daisies duck . I takes them a day or so to raise them again but the always do.

We have had 10 of these for the last 5 years.
Oh and I have burnt pallet wood for the last 20.
The planters are plastic lined before being filled.

11/50 beans have sprouted by this morning. Others just under the surface by the looks of things. SWMBO saw plants locally for £3 so figured I've saved £150 ish potentially less the seed cost and cheapo card pots.

Doing the grass at the mo...who's idea was bloody no mow May?

Psyching myself up to move this lot that are just inside the gate. Heavy is not the word. All I have is muscle power and a wheelbarrow.

Debating making a garden trolley. Been looking at the commercial 350kg ones. I've some angle iron for the top frame / deck. Then lots of 25mm box. Anyone got any plans for one?
