Cut the dandelion just below the. greenery and pop 1/4 teaspoon of salt directly on the exposed root . After a week it will be dead .
Try and not let them flower helps , but if you've got delightful lazy neighbours like mine it's an ever ongoing problem for they only seem to cut their lawns once the darn things have lost their seeds to the wind .
No , sow in succession sowings eight or so seed every two weeks apart from I st June to August for the latest crop that can be lifted and stored in dry peat / or Verve compost ( B&Q ) in a frost free place blanch & freeze or pickle it as well .

Thank god I live in a detached bungalow ( lived in a detached house previously ) it was always my concern that any attached houses would become rentals with specialist gardening & musically inclined tenants who needed broken legs .
Plenty of other things that you can still sow now too, either direct or in pots for planting out in a few weeks. Carrots, Lettuce, Sweetcorn, Pumpkins, Corgettes, Sweede, Turnips, Cabbage, Sprouts, Kale, Peas, in fact lets just say everything or I'll be here forever listing vegetables.

Up end them one at a time on a decent sack barrow , ratchet strap them on and away you go .11/50 beans have sprouted by this morning. Others just under the surface by the looks of things. SWMBO saw plants locally for £3 so figured I've saved £150 ish potentially less the seed cost and cheapo card pots.
Doing the grass at the mo...who's idea was bloody no mow May?
Psyching myself up to move this lot that are just inside the gate. Heavy is not the word. All I have is muscle power and a wheelbarrow.

Debating making a garden trolley. Been looking at the commercial 350kg ones. I've some angle iron for the top frame / deck. Then lots of 25mm box. Anyone got any plans for one?
For my H section 100 x 100 x3 mtr long concrete fence posts I made a simple balanced axle & small platform out of two mountain bike wheels bolted into a small 50/50 angle iron frame . Use a spade then a set of levers & straps to lift them up enough to run the axle under them to the mid point balance , lowered it down then ratchet strapped the post to the platform on the front & real then rolled the 60 mtrs down the yard.. all 24 of them .
In days of old pre 1960's that's how the GPO and electricity companies moved their poles up & down the country from the railheads in towns & cities as well as moving poles from roadside horse & cart drop off points out in the countryside to the individual houses . The axle beam was about a yard wide IIRC and the wheels light weight cart wheels about four feet in diameter . You steered the cart by using the end of the pole as a steering arm ..just make sure the brake block guys are either side next to the wheels .

April & May tend to be the main sowing season for most UK crops The " ROS " has I think a simple sowing chart for what & when . Get D G Hessayan's book " Vegetable Expert " current or and old edition for some quality UK crop sowing's & growing's .
I've used him for knowledge for all manner of cultivating & propagating things & setting up ponds & gardens etc . ever since he had his first book published

Thanks, I'll have a go at that, as I struggle to get all the root out. I've been picking the flowers off when I see them, then just leaving them lying around a bit so the bees can come along and have a go if they want to (I'm not sure if they will), but also picking off buds prior to flowering if I see them.
I also have a neighbour that didn't do any weeding, so that won't be helping. They've moved out now, and the landlords are doing some changes in the garden so we'll see if that helps.

The courgette experimental sowings results are in ( Photo to follow later ) . The myth that they should be specifically orientated appears to be well & truly busted or is it?
All seeds were on my temperature controlled misted propagation bed at 20 oC & poked through on the same late afternoon of the third day , no matter which orientation I set them in save for the one pointy end down , that took almost 36 hrs more to show through .
All seeds were put down a probed measured to 1 " deep hole in the seed tubes & lightly covered with sieved " Verve brand [B&Q] compost .
They got an initial soaking water consisting of 1 cap of Tomorite per gallon of water also at 20 oC
Then time clocked misting sprays of 2 min every 12 hours .

When you plant the pots out put the collar of the pot about an inch below the surface of the soil & back fill gently or the fibres of the pot will wick away a lot of moisture from in & around the pot thus giving your plants a hard time .
The same healthy level of moisture & healthy nutrient consistancy is the secret of growing almost all plants .
It's also worthwhile putting four or five slug pellets in the four inch area surrounding each plant or applying a nematode control as slugs & snails have a voracious taste for the sweeet fresh tender plants )
Many a time till I wised up I'd find dying leaf less green stalks about two inches tall and as thick as a match stick .... all that was left of a newly transplanted bean .
sadly they didn't ever recover either , despite me being kind & loving towards them . Keep a few plants back & let them grow them on in bigger proper pots to at least 9 inches tall so that any the slugs & snails eat can be quickly replaced by bigger stronger less tender tasty plants .
A few hours on the Allotment yesterday, got my beans planted out amongst other jobs.
Plenty there to see me and the Mrs through the summer.
And taking @DAPPH advice to keep a few back to replace the snail food.
More importantly though, it won't be long now until we're into the Broad beans (Broad Bean and Pea risotto, made with allotment fresh beans and peas is the absolute best), and hopefully the Strawberries won't be far behind.
Plenty to look forward too over the coming months and a bit of repayment for all the digging and weeding.

I not prepared to use slug pellets period.
Nematodes I'm in two minds about. I'm really not sure on the effect they'll have on the slowworms here.
Wood fire ash around the young plants is the plan.
I'm still debating the railway sleepers and whether they'll poison the ground but they will be going in though without any extra preserver.
And if anyone is short of storage, a length of plastic gutter bolted to the wall of your greenhouse makes good use of empty space:
I'm currently storing bamboo canes in this one but they're ideal for growing anything that doesn't need much depth of compost such as radishes.
