How to fix this fuel tank

Id be using water with one of those pressure testing pumps to push it out, it will be safer but more controlled.

This sort. I bought one last year and havent found a use for it yet

Pretty sure not what you want hear, but I would leave it as is, if still fuel tight. Don't mean to be a Gaz

I've the exact same on a PRC genny, which is great btw, but wouldn't chance blowing it up even starting at low pressure on those seams.
You will lose bugger all capacity so just live with it.

that is an option thats why im putting it out there if its possable to do if the tank brakes its a bin job as the tank will be more than the units worth

what about a a fuel pipe on the outlet turn on the tap and let air in that way it would be easyer to put a air line in to it

i dout ive got enough adaptors to make a good seal where the tap seats

Try it. Brightspark reckons it’ll work and I’ve no reason to doubt him so go for it. When I’ve taken handlebar dents out of bike tanks I’ve just used fittings to put air in.

Mainly because I’ve got boxes of odd fittings so it seemed an easy option. Never thought about just putting a pipe straight on to be fair. Might try that next time.

It has worked fine when I’ve done it on bike tanks. I’ve never done it on a Chinese generator tank but Go Slow!!

If it’s critical and you’re worried then don’t do it. That dent is probably only a few hundred ml capacity anyway

I'd check the condition of the inside first as these steel tanks rust just by looking at them.

Thread on the fuel tap is usually M10 x 1.25 just to be awkward.

there is rust in there but just a bit of surface rust

now thats an idea but im not sure id get it in there flat as to make it rise all at the right time

Never tried air on a fuel tank. Used it to find coolant leaks holding a bung with my hands. If doing it on a tank might be an idea to run a blow pipe on your tee junction if you need to release the pressure quick before it reaches bang time.

We used to pressurise exhausts then warm the dent up slowly (Rothenberger torch would work good for that).

As said with yours be careful with fumes, fill it with water then air to finish off.

Tanks are not too expensive, but they don't all have the same mounting hole distances. I've had a couple leaking on Quad mowers (same tanks) and priced new ones up, about £50 on eBay but the holes were wrong, so soldered the old tanks up. Did wonder about fitting an old 20 litre add blue container, using bungee straps , but the prospect of loosing 20 litres of petrol if it burst, put me off.

I’ve pulled a few shallow dents out with them on door skins and they seem to be ok.

I watched a video on FartBook the other day of a bloke pulling out a dent on a bonnet with a (huge) ‘lady’s toy’ that had a rubber suction cup on the end. That worked out quite well too!

Cut the bottom out. Straighten the dent and then weld the bottom back ?

You’ve all missed the obvious. The fuel level indicator is plastic an might blow out when the tank is pressurised and could hit you in the eye. Take the indicator out and make a plate..

If you’re going to remove the indicator, just stick your fingers in the hole and give it a pull upwards!

Fill it with expanding foam then screw the lid on...

Better still use the filler and the indicator hole. Maybe some rope between the two and PuuuuuuuuuL!

I went with the fcuk idea and and used the air compresser as said here put a thick bag over thr hole put thr cap on and give it a little just as I seen it move I stoped then give the same amount as before and just a little more and then stoped again as soon as I heard a pop/movment I done this 3 or 4 times and it was most way there back to normal just not the side that had the crease in it was still sloping that way

So give it all I could with the air but the cap was just letting it all out before the Last bit
Come up so son applied a bit of pressure to thr cap and got thr lid straight but with a small crease to the edge
I'm well happy with the outcome thanks guys to all that added input
Now I've only got to clean the tank of thr surface rust and hope that the the reason why its not running right is the gov spring is rusted away as in thr lower pick as that's what I'm betting on
