what’s that on?
I only ask as I thought that, but then found out that some things on the new transit are 18.5mm
anyone know why they used 18.5mm ?
seams an odd choice
EDIT: are you sure they're 18.5mm? a quick google isn't bringing anything up... I'd have thought there'd be a lot of people complaining
mine are all 19mm, but my newest one is mk7
no they just smash a 18 on or wreck them with a 19I'd have thought there'd be a lot of people complaining
A older mate still gets bambozled the other way - Whit he can look at and pick the right spanner straight away . . .metric . . . no ideaNo offence - but I would say the entire point in having whitworth spanners is to preserve the largely unavailable original whitworth fixings on the vintage machinery you are working on without resorting to pounding on spanners and butchering fixings....
Just defeats the object of having the right tool.
Plus I'd love to see you pound a 14mm spanner on a 9/16W bolt.
(Pro tip: 9/16W is closer 25mm)
I'd suggest its accountants - they can buy a few million for 1/2p cheaper per trillion . . .I wonder, how much this is down to younger designers, with little practical experience, changing things, just because they can. With nobody in the department, to tell them to wise up and use a standard size they already use.
Maybe should hhave posted this in Codgers Corner!

The wheel nuts on the transit custom with that stupid foil cover are 18.5Is it tin topped ones?
Seems a bit strange. Drove a mk8 for a bit. Never had to take the wheel off though. Or do anything, other than put a battery terminal on properly.
Does anyone find 12 pointers slacker than 6 pointers?
I need Britool 4260, 4240, 4238, 4235, 4228, 4224, 4223, 4220, 4215, 4207, 4204 and 4201.
Thanks in advance!
Send them to me then. I too got rid of my Whitworth/BSF spanners years ago - then bought an Alvis. Now I scour the Sunday markets for them.
Made a nice rack up out of old keys for the Wera ones, but if you look bottom left i found a load of cut off 1"square meshing and tacked it to a bit of 1" flat bar and coat of paint, cost nothing as it was done in work, utensil holder from kitchen was free too !
